Ive been trying for days to OC this thing and im getting no where. Let me give you a quick breifing of what ive done.

Put everything together, used AS3 on chip/hsf (did it properly too)

I have pc2100 samsung 512mb DDR ram. Works very well, but there may be a problem with it.

I goto the bios and i change the setting from 100mhz FSB to 133 FSB, save changes and exit. The monitor goes blank.

I power off and boot back up and it goes to the bios saying "invalid cpu frequencies" or something along those lines. So i went and did it manually, it works up to 110fsb, anything higher and it just hangs.

Ive also messed with the dip switches on the board, no go.
Ive changed the vcore of the chip, no go.
Ive changed the voltage for the ram (stage 2), no go.
Ive put it on [halt on no errors], no go.

I think the bios is stopping it from booting, i dont know what else to do. Ive asked around a bit and no one has been of much help.

Now, im thinkin it could be the ram, all the chip says is Samsung, i know its 512mb, but im not 100% sure its pc2100 (damn ebay) .. it should be as it was auctioned as so.

If you need more info lemme know and ill see what i can do. I really need help on this =P i basically bought this new system to OC it.

Oh, as for coolers i have the ThermalTake 478 volcano+ or whatever, and i also have a stock cooler (the volcano looks badass ;) )

Thanks

Also, id like to know if the board supports higher speed ram, such as 2700/3000, as the manual (yes ive read it =P ) says 1600/2100 ..

Yes i have the current bios updated, shipped with it on there (1004).
I bought the 2 parts from newegg.com, bless them and their everyday low prices.

The ram ive had for some time, my old system (not that old) was an AMD 1.4, not OC'd ... im willing to sell it =P

Did you have the Athlon 1.4 system set at 133FSB with that RAM? If so, then it shouldn't be the RAM. That motherboard may not "officially" support PC2700/3000, but if your CPU and RAM can handle it, you should be able to OC it to those speeds. To see if its the RAM, set the FSB at 100 and your mem ratio at either 3:4 (133MHz/DDR266/PC2100) or 4:5 (125MHz/DDR250/PC2000). If it will run with the RAM at DDR250 or DDR266, then its possible that you just have a "dud" CPU. It might be a motherboard issue, though, in which case THUGSROOK may be able to help you, since I'm pretty sure he OC'd a 1.6A to like 2.8 or something on a P4B266-C.

Im running with the ram at 3:4 right now, so i guess its the CPU, damnit... I dont think i can return it to newegg, lemme look at my invoice slip see if i can exchange =p

i got it running at 119fsb, my guess is the ram, could be just crap ram...

ive gotten it to 120fsb, but when i rebooted, it just hung, so i had to lower it, and up the vcore to 1.55.. works fine right now =\

I'm having the same problem but I know it's not my memory because at 110 mhz FSB I can clock my ram (Crucial PC2100) at 183 mhz using the 3:5 divider and it runs just fine. However, at 133 with the fsb:Dram ratio at 1:1, the system won't post at all. I've tried Vcore voltages from default to 1.55V. At first I thought it was the board (Soyo P4S dragon SIS645 chipset) but then plenty of people have gotten that board to run at 133 mhz fsb and higher.

Out of curiosity, TheVirus, what is the pack date on your 1.8A? Mine is 5/29/2002 (costa rica) and I read in an earlier thread about someone having a processor with this pack date and not being able to get it higher than 110 fsb.

I'm slightly bummed because I was looking forward to pushing this chip far but oh well, crap happens.

Do you know what speed the ram would be running at with 133fsb and a 3:4 ratio???? It will be 333mhz or pc2700ddr...Likely the pc2100 wont get it that far....

Back off to 1:1 mem ratio and/or lower it to cas 2.5 and other noraml to safe timings....

At 110fsb even with a 3:4 ratio it would still be 296mhz or 30mhz over spec....may have to jack voltage and lower timings at same time to run higher.....

What is the pack date of the 1.8a processor....anything older then 4/2002 may not go that high period....Also may need to run 1.65v to get it there..

1ST RULE OF OCING (remember this)

Get the cpu stable first....Run memory at safe to normal levels at 1:1 or lower until you know the cpu has reached its limit. By running everything balls to the wall, it makes it several times more difficult to isloate issue...

You likely got all your cards in there 2 right????

For P4B266-C, if you set the FSB to 133, then Memory Ratio will be 1:1, with AGP at 66MHz and PCI at 33MHz,
basically everything is at spec, so you are only oc the CPU.

Maybe you should try to 1. up the voltage to 1.65v and set FSB to 133, and see if you can boot up or not..
If you can't, then it's defintely your 1.8A...if you want to use other FSB, do a little search here you will find
a post talk about different FSB setting and different Memory Ratio, AGP/PCI frequency..
