trying to install xp.

i have no idea what's wrong, as usual i suppose.

got the pc to post. boot off the cd(i've tried xp mce, xp home, and xp pro cds).
it loads all the things in the beginning(the blueish screen) then it displays 'setup is starting windows' and then promptly shuts off.

i've tried 3 different sets of ram, multiple cd drives and dvdrw drives, i've tried 2 different harddrives and have gotten the same results every time.

any idea?

specs:

brand new rosewill psu, MSI MS7061 Ver1.1, different sets of ddr, 2800+ sempron.

just tried a different psu too, same thing. it did show the welcome screen for about 2 seconds.

what the removed?

i'm guessing it has to be the mobo/cpu..

profanity removed, this is a tech forum so we keep it a little more civilized.

DeePee: friends of mine have nearly the exact same problem. I asked, and no one seemed able to give any advice. In their case, just after "setup is starting windows", and before it can get to the "Welcome to Windows Setup" blue screen, all display ceases to the monitor; the computer is still running (fans going, power on), but seems dead otherwise (non-responsive, no HDD motor whirring to indicate activity). They have a 2500+, and switched many different PSUs, Mobos, ram, video card permutations possible. Even after installing Ubuntu seperately on a blank drive on a different machine and putting it back in the first machine, it won't load it. Completely mystified.
