Trying to incorporate 614+ with my BEFSR41 network...

I have a hard wired network with my BEFSR41, and it works fine. I just got a 614+ and I want to use it, pretty much, solely as an access point. I have it setup like so:

Cable Modem-->BEFSR41-->switch-->614+

I have a switch to connect my computers to the BEFSR41, and I just want to connect the 614+ to broadcast the wireless signal. I tried to play with the static routing in the Linksys (BEFSR41) router, but I couldn't get the 614+ to be able to work correctly (access internet/BEFSR41 network).

Should I be using static routing? I disabled DHCP on the linksys, so what should I set the settings on the 614+ to be, because it wants to get a "WAN" IP and all that, but for me, I want it to get the LAN IP from the linksys router...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks.

I had some extra time now, so I tried what the page said, and so far it's working more than it was before! I can now see/ping all the computers on the befsr41 and the 614+, but, on the 614+, I can't connect to the internet yet.

I'm not entirely sure which to match the settings for the WAN info on the 614+ to the BEFSR41 and which to match to my ISP (DNS, default gateway...)

My linksys is on a 192.168.1.1 static IP
614+ is 192.168.1.100 static "WAN" but dynamic LAN
Default gateway on the linksys is 68.6.100.xxx
Default gateway on the 614+ is ? (192.168.1.1, or 68.6.16.xxx?)
DNS Servers on the linksys are 68.6.16.xxx
DNS Servers on the 614+ are ? (192.168.1.1, or 68.6.16.xxx?)

I tried combinations, but they didn't seem to work...maybe you guys have a better idea 🙂

I do not have a 614+, so I do not know how they call the specific menus.

However the idea is!

The 614+ router can not work as a router. NO WAN esettings.

You have to set the 614+ access IP (the one that you use to log to the menu) to

192.168.1.100 (if it your choice), and disable the DHCP nothing should work on the 614+ it has to be set as a passive switch.

Do not connect any thing to the WAN input.

The computers on the 614+ wired or wireless should get the IP from the Linksys. Make sure that the Linksys DHCP is set to provide amount of IPs that total the whole system.

Ok, here's what I did:

Linksys settings are all normal (no static routing/dynamic routing/special port forwarding), one of the 1-4 LAN ports on the linksys connected to port 1 (for ease of figuring out) on the 614+ (not the WAN port).

Linksys Settings:
..DHCP is off (my choice)
..router's IP: 192.168.1.1

The 614+ settings are:
..WAN Settings (don't know if they REALLY matter, but)
....Static IP (because I turned off DHCP on my linksys)
......IP Address: 192.168.1.100
......Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
......ISP Gateway Address (Default Gateway): 192.168.1.1
......Primary DNS: 68.6.16.xxx (your ISP specific)
......Secondary DNS: 68.6.16.xxx (your ISP specific)
......MTU: 1500 (not sure what this is, but it works😉)
..LAN Settings
......IP Address: 192.168.1.100
......Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
..DHCP Settings
......DHCP Server: Disabled

Hope this helps anyone who is trying to do the same thing. Jack, thanks a LOT! That website and your help saved me a lot of frustration 😀
Thanks again!

Glad it works.
