Hello Anand!

Over the past two years I have really given a good effort to lose weight. My worst was 260 and then went down to 240 through blood pressure pills and just eating a little better. then two years ago I got a little more serious and walked the dog more and got the power90 (not p90X) program so i could know how to work out with free weights properly.

The next year at work we did a biggest loser challenge. I got second place with a total loss of 28 pounds. It was at that point that I knew I could do it. Winter happened though and my work location changed and I was in the middle of bush and meals were provided so no control over my diet. Also, there was absolutely nothing to do in the evenings so i just sat around watching tv or video games.

In the spring while there was still snow on the ground I got jogging. It was great! After about a month I saw the pounds starting to shave off and my end of August goal was 190 lbs from my current 225. I did hit 190 and am now getting more into the weights again.

I am using my dads old free weight set from when he was a teenager, they are old cement filled plastic things which is fine, it's weight, but I find it tiresome to change the weight for different parts of my body. Right now, my triceps are nowhere near where my biceps are so i have to change weight to do that or do those chair dips or just push ups.

I am doing weights to fill out my overall fitness goals. If I could, I would just run, bike and swim all the time but then I wouldn't be strong and for the first time in my life I want to be proud of my body. I don't really like lifting weights but the results are popping out a lot more now that I have lost so much weight this year.

My overall questions, besides looking for encouragement is should I stick with my current weights or upgrade to some quick change ones?
What about bowflex type home gyms, bowflex or not? What are some top home gyms that don't break the bank?

I really am having trouble motivating myself to work out in my own basement let alone going to a gym after work or after supper so I don't think that's an option but I guess it could be. I'd rather just do it at home when I get free time each day.

Thanks for reading and I hope some people can give helpful advice!

join a gym.... go straight there after work rather than going home first and eating. Prep your food to accommodate this.

bowflex is a not going to cut it, nor is any "affordable" home gym

This is really the best advice. Plan your meals so you can gym and then don't have a ton of work to do afterwards.

If you're intent on spending Bowflex money, you're better of just buying a squat rack, adjustable bench, and some free weights. They might take up a bit more space, but will pay off so much more than a "home gym machine" type of workout.
