Found this in Hot Deals, but thought I'd post it in OT since there are so many fitness questions posted here. There's a promotion right now through Powerbar to use the CTS Training website program free for 30 days. This might be a good introduction to the concept of a training schedule and periodization for those of you not familiar with these concepts. I've signed up for it and will report back to you all as the forum guinea pig. 😉

Link to the signup page. Site is un-effing-believably slow for me right now, so YMMV as far as getting logged on. Once you're in, you'll fill out a brief questionaire regarding your overall fitness and experience. You then have 10 days to complete a "field test" that provides a baseline measurement of your fitness. Plug in the results of this test and you get back a 30-day structured training program.

Can I do this without working out? 😉
Yes. Use a sharp knife to cut the fat off your middle. Staple the fat to your upper body. Voila! You're done! 😉

Ouch! At least use nails, one hole is better than two.

Just got an email from them:

Welcome to Carmichael Training Systems. My name is Jason Walker and I am a Resident Coach in cycling at our Colorado Springs facility. The first step in getting you set up with a personalized training is for you to take a Field Test. The details of this can be found under "library" and then "workout descriptions" on the athlete homepage at trainright.com. During the test please record average heart rate and max heart rate for each of the 3 mile (or 8 minute time trials. Also time distance, perceived exertion on a scale of 1-10 and the weather and course conditions. To submit the data to me click on "your info" then "profile" then slide out to "field test" then click "take it" and fill in the blanks. You may want to do this before the test to see the data I am looking for. Once you click "submit" it will be sent to me directly.

The second step is for you to take a few minutes and answer the following:
1. How many miles/hours have you been training per week for the last 4-6 months?
2. Briefly describe your current training program.
3. What events are you focusing on for this year?
4. What is the date of your major goal event?
5. What distances are you racing/touring? What class?
6. How many days and hours per week would you like to devote to training?

The answers to these questions, as well as your Field Test data will allow me to build a training schedule that is tailored to your unique physiology and goals. Thank you for choosing CTS.

Guess I'll go out and flog myself for the field test this afternoon and see how things go.

that actually looks pretty cool, but somehow I don't see a lot of people making good progress with it because the coach won't actually be there to hold their hand through the process.

I'm curious as to how customizeable the schedule is as you progress through it. A good one should be adjusted up or down based on what kind of progress (or lack thereof) you're making.

Like I said, I'll keep you all posted as soon as I get started.

yeah, please do. I'm always looking for a good trainer. (heber doesn't exactly have a plethora of decent ones)

I decided to do it, even though I'll be moving in a couple weeks which could interfere somewhat.

I gave them my work phone number, figured they would never need it... Less than an hour later someone from CTS called & left a voice mail for me.
