trying to gain weight...

ok, a little general info:

I am 21 years old, a junior in college. I am a little over 6 feet tall, and weigh 135lbs.

I have a very high metabolism, and have never really been able to gain weight. I can eat and drink as much as I want and not gain (or lose) a single pound. I can put down 52oz steaks, 6 or 7 burgers in a sitting, and anything else I want, and still no weight gain.

I have tried weight training, but mostly just here and there to help my golf game, nothing regular and serious.

Both my dad and uncle had a very high metabolism around my same age, but now they are both very built (6'5" 280lbs). Their metabolisms slowed down in their 20's sometime.

My question is, is there anything I can do to gain weight now, or do I have to wait until my metabolism slows?

Would a very high protein diet, and alot of weight training do the trick? Any nutritionists or fitness experts in here?

eat what i did for dinner, but do it 4 times a day

1 pint of chocolate 2% milk
2 maple donuts with walnuts
half a pizza (large)
large glass of 2% milk
 
Sweet Jesus! Man, so many people would be happy to have your problems 😀

Just hope that your metabolism slows as you grow older, I suppose.
 
id love to try, but im in college, and have a limited budget, so I would rather know it has a chance of working before spending all that money. Especially when it could be put toward beer instead of milk 🙂
 
I'm in the same boat. I'm 5'10" and 129 pounds as of three hours ago 🙂 I've gained two pounds since two weeks ago woohoo! Anyway, I've been lifting pretty regularly and consuming a fair amount of protein, and I am slowly developing some muscle. I'm pretty much immune to bulking up or becoming fat, but at least I'm not quite as stick-thin as I was. I'm still scrawny though. Whatever you do, don't just eat a lot of junk food, as then you might be bigger, but you won't be healthy.
 
You'd want to become built, not fat. So find an hour a day or so, hit the gym, and eat like there's no tomorrow 😀 but it's it wouldn't be easy.
 
You first need motivation ... Last spring I started trying to gain weight for Cancun 🙂
You need to get a meal plan where you eat every 3 hours - not always full meals
Take protein (Whey protein)
Lift weights and you'll be gaining 2lbs a week.

damn man youre skinnier than me! but i know exactly how you feel. im 5'10 and in the low 130s. back before i had surgery, i had moved up to the high 130s by working out a lot. my friend recommended that i do as much weight as i could for sets of 6 or 7, and it seemed to work. its tough to add muscle to nothing tho. i tried a weight gain protein shake and it did nothing... us skinny people just gotta do what we can.

btw you dont smoke do you? the surgery i mentioned before was for collapsed lungs, and was in part due to my thinness. not that i want you to worry... but be careful. :Q
 
last year I was 5"10 and I weighed maybe 125 lbs. Granted, I was addicted to painkillers, doing a lot of drugs and not eating, but I was really skinny and I hated it.

I'm 6"0 Now and I weigh 180lbs, I'm very pleased with my weight gain =]

Basically...eat.

I have a fast metabolism too, I know how it is. I know you think you eat, but eat more. Protein powders are cool, but (in the beginning anyways) just eat whatever you can get your hands on. Eat, Eat, Eat...eat until you feel bloated and sick, eat until your stomach is going to explode, seriously. What's good is to eat a bunch and then take a nap or sleep. Sometihing I personally found effective was a big pasta dish right before I went to bed.

Perhaps this sounds simple, I dunno, I am just telling you what worked for me. Granted, I was weight training the entire time.

I am still gaining weight, I am going to gain a bit more and then begin cutting. I've gained a little fat (though to my credit...i still eat anything basically) but I would rather have a bit of that then be looking at my 120lb self 1 year ago.

 
Antidepressants or antipsychotics both cause weight gain, especially in combination with a high protein diet. My GP put me on Paxil CR about 2 years ago so I could gain weight (I had an extremely high metabolism, as well). I've been off of them for a little over a year, and my weight has remained stable.

Try some diet and exercise methods first, but if those don't work (they didn't for me) consult your doctor.
 
i have a similar "problem" . . . . my metabolism is way fast.

if i eat normally, 3 or 4 meals daily - to fullness - i will not maintain my weight.

My solution is to eat a meal AT BEDTIME . . . . .
