im trying to flash my bios, i made a startup disk, and it works, i get to the A prompt, but when i type in flash, it begins going to the flash utitlity, and it says it cant do it cause HIMEM is present?

did you make a startup disk from the BIOS manufacturer's website or a standard DOS/Windows boot disk? If it's the latter you may need to manually edit the config.sys file on the root of the floppy to remove the HIMEM.SYS line (as far as my DOS days recall)
