Why would you say that? They have a location in Fashion Valley Mall and they list Cartier as one of the brands they carry there too. It's not as though this is some fly-by-night operation with poor customer reviews. Cartier does sell through other high end stores like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Ave.

When I can't find the product from any single vendor other than the one trying to sell me the product, my spidey senses start tingling. There have been countless stories about mall vendors selling counterfeit goods.

You seem to be big on trust but not so big on verify.

Why not contact Cartier directly and send them the pic you got and just ask? Or get a model number from the vendor to verify with Cartier. This seems like it should be really easy.

On pricier designer stuff, I don't trust retailer if they're not authorized dealer.

I may do that later in the week if I decide to go down and buy these sunglasses. Not sure yet if I'm going to do that or not. My wife is against it but they looked really nice on her and I'd like her to have them.

If I call Cartier I'll ask them if Optica is an authorized retailer (even though I'm 99.9999% sure they are). I have the model name so they could easily verify it.

Yeah, not a bad plan. It's also possible they (Optica) don't know they are selling a fake. It happens.

No it's not fake.

Having recently bought a ton of designer stuff from various brands, I can tell you that they don't always have the same merchandise on their website. I think it's due to the nature of the fashion industry. It moves so fast and they don't make many of them, so they don't ever bother to put it on their websites or catalogs. Out of the eight items I bought from Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Tiffany's, Bulgari, etc., only one was on their website. But since I bought all my items from their retail stores, obviously they are not fakes. Hell, I bought a Bulgari item at their store, went to another Bulgari retail store and showed them a pic of what I bought and their salespeople had never even seen it before.

And now that I'm on their mailing lists, they send me really cool large hard cover catalogs. But I've never seen the items I just bought in them still.

Except OP didn't go to a Cartier store, he went to a retailer which may or may not be authorized since Cartier doesn't list authorized resellers on their site.

I understand that there are millions of things you can also ask "what makes <item> worth $XXXX???" So I'm not here to say scream "omg why would anyone buy that!?"

I am legitametly curious to know what makes it cost $1,400?

I'm sure it's mostly due to the brand/label you are paying for, but...do the shades provide any special benefit that other less expensive shades can't? Are the materials used different?

Genuinely curious.

I am willing to wager it is all about the brand name. You can get shades between $125-$300 that are known for excellent build quality and top notch optics such as Maui Jim and Serengeti. The extra $1200 is for the name Cartier to show off that you have that kind of loot to drop.

Then theres the middle class people why do you live there why don't you drive a nicer car you have money. Easy sweetie I don't want to live paycheck to paycheck like you, I'm working on making my money work for me like the rich pricks that can blow $1400 on sunglasses, I just want land and easy livin instead.

Skull makes sense.

Poor people spend money they don't have for luxuries they can't afford.

Middle class people live more within their means even though they can "afford better".

Rich folks just buy whatever more or less without worrying about it.

Jules isn't rich per se but he can certainly afford a $1400 pair of glasses on a whim. More power to him.

What do you mean what the fuck? I don't need fancy shit I'll drive the shit out of a car worth $1400 what the fuck do I need sunglasses that cost $1400 for? My $20 shades work just fine. People that need that kind of stuff are just insecure and trying to prove something, they look like losers to me. Especially the ones that brag about it in public or on internet forums. Look at me I got $1400 sunglasses, yeah they look like $20 shades what the fuck are you bragging to me for?

I didn't end up buying them but was curious if anyone here could find them online... I sure couldn't. That's the only reason I posted this thread. Thanks for the assumptions though bro.

Nobody needs $1400 sunglasses, least of all me. I just thought they looked really nice on her (and they do). By the way, she doesn't want me to spend the money on them either. She already has another pair of Cartier sunglasses I bought her about a year ago that she loves.

If you want to spread the wealth since your not getting them, I got $1600 in dental work that needs done.

I'm just kidding I'd pull my teeth out before taking a hand out.

The materials and construction probably along with the name. That panther etched into the lenses probably adds some cost too along with the coatings on the optics. They use quality metals and everything has to be perfect. Obviously, it doesn't COST $1400 to make them. Probably a huge markup on them but that's Cartier and that's why people copy these luxury brands. Hell, look at Louis Vuitton purses and bags, you see them freaking everywhere. I'm starting to look at how the women carrying them are dressed to try to determine if their bag is real or fake. :D

The LV bags probably have a high % of fakes.

Maybe its me but over the years I've realized real or fake designer wear, anyone that trys too hard is a fake person inside.

So, everyone that drives a nice car is fake? I know a few people who have money and they aren't any more real or fake than anyone else. Actually, most of them are extremely real because they just don't have time for bullshit. Oddly enough, the same can be said for some of the less fortunate I've known over the years too to some extent. Don't be so quick to judge people.

Good luck with your dental work. I have a couple things I need to have done too... I keep putting it off because I hate drilling into teeth that aren't actually bothering me at the moment but I realize it has to be done. Ugh.

I just assume that they are all fake.
