Trying to find someone

I was looking to buy an abandon house close to where I live, but no one knows where the people who owned it live. I have done some property tax searches and have come up with the people?s name and ss#, so my question now is, how do I find them??cheaply. I have none several searches using various engines to find a free ss# trace but they all charge. My thinking is, if they charge then it has to be free somewhere, because they have to get the info from somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it's abandoned, chances are that the people that owned it, "didn't" and own the bank a lot money on back mortage payments. The property was most probably foreclosed, sold at auction, etc. I'd try to find out what lending institution owns the title now. You don't want to deal with deadbeats anyway!

Where are the property tax bills being sent to.

Check if there is a tax lien on the property. If so, you may be amle to pick it upby paying the back taxes

*goto a real estate agent...ask then general questions. I bet they can give you better advice than half the nerds here.

Time to squat on it. In some states, 5 years and it's yours.

Just in case you think I'm kidding, I'm not.

If you really, really want that house, and you can't seem to find anyone who has claimed ownership, then you should squat on it. Under the doctrine of adverse possession, you can gain title by:

1) taking possession without permission of true owner
2) open and notorious possession, aka using the property as though you were the owner
3) continuous possession (anywhere from 5-20 years, depending on the state)

And voila, it's yours.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have checked the court house and I have found out who is the owner, the taxes are sent to this house, and there is no lean on it. Back to the original question, how can I find someone that has moved out of the area if I know their name and SS#?

Thanks

I'll check with my Lawyer on its applicability in my state. But if I have to make improvements on it then that would be no good. It would take upward of 30000 to make it livable and I would rather put 45000 into it. I would hate to loss that kind of money. (any money for that matter)

Thanks
