Trying to disc copy a dvd file in Nero 6...

I try using Nero 6 to do a disc to disc copy with DVDs. The exact file appears on the copied disc, however, when i try to play the file (it's a .avi divx file), it doesn't work. It works fine on the original disc. Is there a program that actually does disc to disc copying for DVDs well? I have also had problems with adaptec. I have a NEC 3520A DVD burner with the liggy and dee firmware. i don't know what to do...but it's definitely getting me ticked off.
