I have a 60GB ipod, and I only use itunes to put music on it. I've never purchased anything off itunes, and I probably never will.

Sansa is fighting back! :) I've eliminated the Trekstor because it's too big compared to the others. I like the Nano, but the lack of FM kinda hurts it, I'd have to fork out another $50 for that FM thing for it.

So that leaves the Zen V Plus or the Sansa E280. I played with both yesterday, but they weren't charged. Anyone think the nubby thing on the Zen V is hard to use? The Sansa seems better for people with slightly bigger hands.

If you use iTunes, there's no reason to avoid the nano. Doesn't mean you have to buy it, but don't just say iPod sucks.

If you are like me and use FLAC, then that TrekStor looks nice. I've never seen it before, might have to look into it. I always looked at iAudio stuff.

I don't use iTunes, so I'd be starting new with that. I use Yahoo music unlimited, but I'm not going to use that anymore. I often forget to sync my player, and i never fails I'm on the train, I go to play a song, and I get "License Expired. Please re-sync." I'm done renting music, just doesn't work for the way I use a DAP. So I might use iTunes if I get a Nano.

FM is excellent on the Sansa, btw.

Indeed I do. Great sound quality and eq, drag and drop music, i can put porn for my backgrounds, 8gb is cheaper than 4 gb ipod, 20 hour battery life. you can buy a fm tuner if you really want one, but really don't see a purpose for one. you can also replace the battery, which is a big plus. Its not that big, just a little smaller than my cell phone.

Now I've started looking at the 30gb iPod video. I swear I hate myself sometimes, I can't make a decision and then other devices start looking good.

If the sound quality issue on the Sansa is just related to the headphones, then that's not an issue, I wasn't planning on using their's anyway.

Can someone confirm this?

I think you get a little bit of noise regardless of what headphone you are using.

I don't have a Sansa, so I can't confirm it, but that's what I've heard.

I have the 8GB Zen V Plus. Its tiny, and it sounds great. I use Altec Lansing IM716, Koss Portapro, and Grado SR125. I keep all my songs in .wav format if that matters, as I just cant deal with the bs that is mp3.

The joystick is very small, so for me, thats fine, otherwise if you have chubby fingers, look elsewhere.

Because itunes is a pita, and backing up your songs from an ipod is not as simple as drag and drop -- and all the song names are mixed up and screwed up.

Other than that, the ipod does use a nice wolfson dac. But portable music is supposed to be easy to use. To many people, what I mentioned is a turn off and they will look elsewhere.

Don't give in to the anti-popular hype, and buy the benchmark. Get the Nano, it's the best for a reason, and that's because it's the best.

Well I went an looked the players. Unfortunately I couldn't find a place that had a WORKING Zen or Sansa. They either had a dead battery or some other problem. But that was enough for me to decide I just don't like the Zen V's nubby control thing. I play around as much as I could, and it just didn't feel natural.

So, I think now it's a decision between the Nano and the Sansa. I could also go nuts and get a refurbed 30gig iPod for about the same price as the Nano.

I really like my e270. Just bought a 2GB MicroSD for $30 to bump it up to 8GB. The SQ issue is really just a little interference noise between tracks.

Better sound quality, better battery, better reliability, better price, better features. Other than that, gee, no reason at all.
