Trying to cut 30 seconds form my time (Drifting/cornering tips needed)

Looks like you're fast - I can't believe you're trying to set fast times with AI cars on the track. That leads to too much randomness. Each time you bump an AI car, that's costing you time.
I'd also imagine how you use boost is important - I would think you'd want to use it on the exit of corners when your speed is at it's slowest and you're accelerating. No need to use boost to get you from 150->158. You want boost to get you from 90->120.
But I don't play that game, and the physics are arcadey physics.

The AI isn't that hard to stay ahead of, they're horrible at turns. I can upload another video where I got ahead of them on that first turn and then kept a 5 - 10 second lead the rest of the race.

The AI does adapt to your times pretty well though, you can always catch up to them after a few corners though, if you are falling way too far behind they will slow down as well.

30 seconds off of what you posted seems like a glitched run; you ran pretty well and I can't imagine shaving that much off without a near perfect run.

I loathe rubber band physics.

Yeah, it sorta irritated me just watching it. :p

Just look at your speed changes. Bumping the rail dropped you from 200 down to 160, and there was another big drop when you went on dirt. Also, you missed a couple of shortcuts, and one shortcuts you did take was technically shorter, but you went from 210 all the way down to 120. Some shortcuts you should just avoid if you can't hit them clean, and others are designed to trick you. Sometimes you are boosting when you're out of your drift, but probably boosting mid to late drift would be best. Its been awhile since I played this and ran this race, but for the most part you did OK. Just watch someones speed run for this race and try emulating them. Check out this guy:

3:52.32. This guy hit everything so cleanly the ai couldn't even rubber band to catch him! lol

That's what I want to do but I don't just want to copy him and repeat the same thing on that map. I want to understand the racing lines/drifting/cornering lines he uses and how to figure them out.

I'm also trying to understand how to come out of drifts smoothly.

Do you guys think he's using a wheel?

This. Based on this video, this was a VERY clean run with little or no collisions as well. The drifts were clean and after mid-way in the race, was already 30sec+ ahead of 2nd place and kept that for the remainder.

Never seen somebody take racing in NFS: Hot Pursuit so seriously. This is as arcade as it gets and everybody knows the AI doesn't follow same rules you do.

Not a fan of sims, AI doesn't follow the same rules but coming in first isn't an issue at all so there go AI racers. That leaves traffic, which isn't that bad either the don't change lanes most of the time, and never if you know what your doing. I've had an issue of a car spawning right in front of me once or twice but that was it.

I just enjoy the smooth drive and my friends play it online sometimes.

Cops do hack though.

Mythbusters did an episode recently where they demonstrated that drifting is not faster than racing a proper racing line. So don't drift.

I think the problem you're having is that Mythbusters did their test in the real world and you're trying to equate that to a videogame with an intentionally unrealistic physics model. Mythbusters could also show that mushrooms don't make you immediately double in size, but that doesn't apply to Mario, since he's not real. In this particular videogame series, drifting is virtually required; if you brake and hit the apex the way you should actually do it, you'll lose by a minute as other racers take the corner at full tilt with nitro boosts.

Depends on what type of 'shrooms you're ingesting...

I watched some of that guys other videos and he's pretty damn good, especially against real players in multiplayer. He manages his boost really well. He lets people pass him towards the end so he can slipstream and build boost, and in the last km he just rips past them and they don't have enough to maintain. He also looses minimal speed throughout the race. Reminded me of my Burnout days when racing against top 10 guys and I'd do everything as clean as I could and I'd still lose by 3 sec. lol

This x1000. I would recommend you study the "style" used in Childs's link to get the best time on that game.

I have played almost every Need for Speed game for the PC, and one thing that irritates me is their constant changing of control/style. Some for the better, some not. I for one am glad they stopped trying to make control too realistic, as in Shift and Shift 2.

IIRC Hot Pursuit did not show drifting benefits in a normal race, but I will confess that it has been a while since I played that one.
