Trying to control fan speed

I have a 3-pin fan and a 3-pin connector on my motherboard. It's the fan that came with my case so it's probably a cheap brand. The fan is plugged directly into the motherboard, not the PSU. I have a GA-P35-DS3L motherboard.

So basically my question is this: Is it possible to automatically control the fan speed if it's a 3-pin connection, or do I need a 4 pin connection?
 
Yeah.... we need more info. Take a pic of your mobo, or find a pic of your mobo and edit it to show where the fan is hooked up to. I'm willing to bet your mobo can only control the speed of 2 or 3 fan headers on your mobo (NB, CPU and maybe something labled like Chassis or System 3)
 
There are a total of 4 fan headers on the mobo (including CPU). The BIOS setting only works for the CPU fan, and I didn't have much luck with SpeedFan, so my question is: Can SpeedFan control a 3-pin fan, or does it need a 4-pin fan, or does it depend on the make/model of the fan? I don't want to go out and buy another "quiet" 3-pin fan just to find out that it's going to run at 100% constantly.
