I have no idea what got on the 3 DVD's in question, don't know exactly how to explain it. I'll try...

they are totally scratch free, something must have gotten spilled on them but they're not sticky at all. they're almost cloudy on parts. With white spots. I tried water, car wax, and Windex with no luck. It's like something has gotten under the surface, but I've never seen or heard of that happening. I pretty much have given up getting them to play (drive won't recognize them at all) but I thought I'd ask on here. I have a crummy Camera on my phone if anyone would like to see the marks, dunno how well they'll come out in a picture though.

You could try something like a disk doctor or other mild abrasive to remove the top layer of plastic (obviously be very careful). I heard that sometimes toothpaste works

I've always heard about the toothpaste thing, I think it has to be old school toothpaste though? All I have is gel, I don't think it has the grittiness needed.

if I'm wrong somebody please correct me :)

One suggestion that I've tried is to boil the DVD. I know this sounds stupid and I didn't believe it either but it worked for me. Just get a pot of water boiling. Turn off the heat and gently add the DVD to the near boiling water (be careful for splashes). I added the DVD face down so that the side that was read was near the pot bottom. Wait 2-3 minutes and carefully pour the water out of the pot or get the DVD out somehow. Pat dry and try. I've read that sometimes it takes 2-3 times to be effective but mine worked right away

what DVDs are they? Are they old? Contact was a DVD that was manufactured poorly. Some of those discs are exhibiting something known as "DVD rot". Do you live in a high humidity environment? High moisture in the air can accelerate DVD rot.

I had music cd that had crap stuck to it. I just took some 99% Isopropyl alcohol to it. All of that junk came right off. I'd say give the Isopropyl alcohol a try.

now thats close to what it looks like. The link doesn't say how to repair them, so I'll guess the DVD's are DOA.

the area I live isn't really high humidity, the problem must have came from not keeping the disc's in a case and ummm something got on them to accelerate the problem.

they are both DL DVD's if that means anything
