Trying to buy an FTA satellite reciever

My dad's usual method of finding things online (type subject into address bar "FTA receiver" and blindly follow Google links) is exactly what I don't want to do.

Anyone got any recommendations for something that won't break every year, and preferably something that has a universal remote control code? I'm sick of having to hunt down a new remote for our box every time it breaks, and now the box itself is broken so I figure I'll just replace it once and for all.

I'm kinda interested mainly because i have no clue what you want. you talking about getting foreign channels? that would be neat.

There is no problem with any FTA receiver for strictly FTA purposes. All of them have universal remotes. Since you're not flashing the firmware, chances of failure is very, very small. Heat build up isn't a problem unless it's a PVR or HDTV receiver.

We currently have some garbage brand (Coship or something) FTA receiver that we've already been through two of. We use it to receive a few Arabic language channels, and the one we have just broke; my dad wants me to fix it before Ramadan so they can watch whatever it is they watch on Arab channels during Ramadan.

AFAIK, there are a few Asian language channels on there, and a bunch of European stuff too. That requires aiming it at a different satellite/transponder though.

Viewsat sounds good, any recommendations on where to buy it from?

google f2atv, although most of the website has to do with pirated signals, it has a section on "True F2A". It is probably going to be the best site for info on the subject. Don't be suprised if you can't access the website for a couple of days though because the providers just sent down an ECM and the site is getting hammered.
