Trying to build. Any obvious problems?

Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V Lk ATX LGA1155 Z77
CPU: Intel Core I5 3570K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T4 Heatpipe Heatsink (cheap and quiet I hope)
Case: Antec Three Hundred Mini ATX (nothing fancy needed)
RAM: 16GB: 2 x Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance Blue 8GB 2X4GB
SSD- Crucial M4 256
Video: ASUS Radeon HD 5450 Silent 1GB DDR3 64BIT PCI-E



PowerSupply: Some 650w I guess. Do I need 53A or 60A?
1.XFX 650W PRO650W Core Edition Single Rail ATX 12V 53A 24PIN ATX Power Supply
2.Corsair TX650 V2 650W ATX 12V Single Rail 53A 24PIN ATX Power Supply
3.Corsair TX650 V2 650W ATX 12V Single Rail 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply


Use: Just general use. I like and use RAM so I'm sticking with 16. I have old HDs to add, but the M4 SSD will be the OS/main drive.

Mobo: I know the ASRock is popular, but I'd like to stick with ASUS.

Video: I wanted to add a cheap video card (without a FAN, I'd like a quiet system) so my system RAM isn't used by onboard video (I assume it has onboard video worse than this 5450?) I have 2 Dell DVI monitors. Is it an okay cheap choice?

Ram: Is it the right kind? Will the height of the heatsinks be a problem?


Any incompatibilities? Thanks for feedback.

To me, it looks like you're trying to put an ATX board into a case specified for micro-ATX boards. I'm not sure that would fit without problems?

There may be an m-ATX version of the board you listed. Alternately, you could take a look at the ASRock Z77 Extreme4-M. It likely offers better audio codecs, among other things.

Edit: Nevermind.. the case's name fooled me. Nothing to see here, move along. >.>

This is a review of the Trinity APUs, but there are FPS results for the reference 5450 and the HD4000 IGP. The HD4000 is actually faster than the 5450.

Also, even with the 5450, a quality 650 watt power like the one you listed is quite excessive. Its TDP is 19 watts direct current.

Hmm. Is there some cheap and silent (no fan) video card a bit better than HD4000 IGP?

I'm adding 3 HDs and a DVD drive. Is 650w still too much? Is there any harm? I just like going with whatever is popular.

Hard drives may consume about 10 watts, and this might be an overestimate.

Will you be doing any sort of tasks that will tax graphics? You can simply go to the BIOS and set how much memory to dedicate to the IGP. 32 MB is the minimum for that board.


Performance-wise, you won't notice much with regards to having too much wattage on a PSU. It's just that once you have enough wattage, you should start to shift your focus to other features and benefits and/or just saving the money. These "other features and benefits" include things such as tighter voltage regulation, lower noise/ripple, higher efficiency, less noise generated by the fan. These things are not necessarily easy to notice, but better PSUs do better in these things. The TX650 V2 is an excellent performer, but you can save money by going to a quality PSU with lower wattage.

As it stands now, your system can run off this Seasonic SSR-360GP.

What do you do in the way of visual stuff? The IGP in the 3570K can handle more than you might think.

Ok you've convinced me to stick with the IGP. I can always add later if I need it.

That Seasonic 360 isn't available (ncix.com). I guess I'll try the Corsair CX430 unless there is something better/more quiet at the same price.

The Fractal Design Define R4 is good for minimizing noise. Runs quite a bit more expensive though and it is a bit heavy.

As for the RAM, the heatsinks won't matter if you are not going to get an aftermarket cooler.

How much is that cooler? I can't say if it's "good" or not without knowing the price (and Google won't tell me...)

Well, you probably shouldn't be using Cosair Vengeance RAM. It's generally overpriced, hard to fit in with any heatsink, and doesn't perform noticeable better than any other kind of RAM. In fact, the higher clockspeeds means it's more likely to die than properly spec'd RAM. Low profile Crucial RAM is only $84 (rather than the $100 Vengeance) from Amazon. Use those savings to get a better cooler. The Scythe Katana 4 is only $25.50 from FrozenCPU and should be much better than a T4.

It's basically a Hyper 212 but narrower. It should accomodate big fin RAM. However, the only reason I see to get that sort of RAM in the first place is if it is free with the mobo.
