Just installed 9.25 last night to give it a shot.

It does load faster than Firefox and I always did like the mouse gestures.

However, I'm really used to the way I've gotten Firefox customized over the years and don't thing I can live without a couple of features. Most glaring for now is tabbed browsing customization. I want to left click a link and have it open in a tab automatically, and I want them to open at the bottom.

Another thing is that I can't seem to move toolbars around like I could in Firefox. If I could rearrange toolbars I could fill in a lot of empy space and get get rid of a row or two.

I'm still playing around with it to find other features I'm not aware of yet but it won't last long if I can't change the way tabs are handled.

I was a Opera user for years but the last couple of release put me off it I hate that speed launch thingy. I moved over to Firefox a month back with foxmarks, colourful tab, IE tab & homepage tab. Getting on so much better now

I can't help you, but I'm a little ambivalent about Opera. I've been using it on a secondary computer, and while nice, it's not as customizable as Firefox. I prefer Opera to IE7, but Firefox is still my favorite browser.

Scroll wheel click will launch the link in a new tab. You can also Tools->Appearance->Toolbars to make the toolbar smaller (I just have personal bar, tab bar and address bar).

I did like in Opera that if you space to page down at the bottom if it was a revire for example with 8 pages with the last space press it would go to the next page for you. I should look for a firefox plugin for that :)

i'll try to step you thru this:

edit: To open a new tab when clicking a link, you can always just 'shift+left-click' the link to open to a new tab. "ctrl+shift+left-click" will open that link into a new tab but that tab will stay in the background.

1: Right-click on a tab and click 'Customize'. For the 'Placement' option, select 'Bottom'

2: you can double click the tab AREA (not an actual tab) to create a new tab, if you dont want to click the 'create new tab' button. 'Ctrl+t' will also open a new tab. 'Ctrl+w' will close the top tab.

3. Follow #1 to move around and adjust the rest of your toolbars :)

You can also disable certain toolbars via Tools>Appearence>Toolbars and unchecking the toolbars that are currently displayed

also, incase you haven't done this already: Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Browsing>Redraw Instantly

i'll be back to try to answer any other questions.

Ok thanks, ockky. I got the tabs on the bottom, and I figured out how to get it so my favorites open in a new tab. If I need a link to open in a new tab, I can just middle click it.

The toolbars won't move, but I've only got 3 bars showing so it's not a big deal.

I may be misunderstanding your definition of 'toolbars' (or more likely, how you wish to move them), but, if a toolbar is, say the bar with the forward/backward/home/etc buttons (and other such bars) all you have to do is enter 'Customization' mode, just like you moved the tab bar, you can move the others

to better describe what i'm saying...

1: right-click the toolbar you want to move and select Customize. ex: right-click the 'home' button

2: notice a yellow box has encircled that entire toolbar, now just select the Placement for that toolbar within the popup.

3: ???

4: profit

also, while in "Customize" mode, you can simply left-click any toobar to 'encircle' it, to then begin modifying it

hope that helps you out

In Firefox and even IE you can grab for instance the address bar, and put it on the very top bar next to the drop down menus. You can move the Google box wherever you want it as well. In Opera I was unable to move those elements. I could select them, and get the yellow box, but then they wouldn't go anywhere.

Here's a screenshot of Firefox with the toolbars moved around:

ah! i see what you mean. yah, back in the day, when i used IE i had the File/Edit/etc buttons, nav buttons, and address bar all on one bar. I do remember being alittle bummed about not being able to do that in Opera. what i ended up doing, was making the nav buttons smaller, which in turn made that entire nav bar alittle thinner.

oh well, maybe opera will change how everything moves around one day /shrug. here's a pic of my setup incase you are interested ... with the panals hidden off to the side

How did you get the Home button to replace the Wand?

I do like Opera, but that's mainly because it has a lot of the same functionality I get out of Firefox. I don't see anything that will make me switch but it's good to know there are other good options.

I have lots of great addons for Firefox, that I'd have a hard time living without. For core functionality Opera's great, but I think Firefox beats it in expandability, and customization.
