It's 64bits, the regular WinXP is 32bits.

You need to have a 64bits processor to run WindowsXP 64bits Edition such as Athlon64

Hmmmm.... how long is the demo good for?
I'm about to build a new computer, and this basically means I can subtract the cost of windows from the system and add that cost to get a better processor. I was planning on going with AMD, probably something around 2800, since that seems to be where the jump in cost starts occurring. But now, this makes the jump to AMD64 more enticing.

360 days from download? Or 360 days from install?

I'm guessing from install since you can easily manipulate a download timestamp.

ahh i woudln't do it unless you have a extra computer laying around. This isn't the release version. It isn't available yet. Yes you could go try it in vmware or virtualpc but that software is 32 bit so you would still be confined by 32 bit. Oh ya if you have an extra computer laying around and its an AMD opteron, amd64, xeon, or p4 with em64t support have to much freakn money send some my way :)

Probably not - you can fake the time of the install, set the time back a couple of years.

Some beta releases expire after a given date. so if it says 360 days, it could be about this time next year. but i could be wrong.

I wonder when MS will officially release a 64-bit version of WinXP? Probably won't do it until Intel releases their 64-bit Pentium 4 (Pentium 5?) to compete with the Athlon 64.

If you have an Nforce board and Nvidia or ATI video card, you're good to go as their drivers seem to work pretty well. Just keep in mind that there aren't any 64-bit WXP apps out there (that I know of), and some of your favorite 32-bit apps may not work correctly. Dual booting or a separate hard drive is a good idea.

That said, it definitely feels faster. :)

Of course, an even better "ugprade" can be found at www.litepc.com

Is the jump to 64 bit everything coming soon? Does this mean all of our 32 bit stuff will become obsolete in the next year or two? Or how fast will this happen?
