Anyone knows if MAC accepts the New Xeons quad ?
Anyone did it ?
I will ask if some of you tried to switch the processors in the MAC, cause I want to do this:

Change the processors to quad core.
Put 8 Gigs of RAM
A Ge Force 8800 GTX
Run Kubuntu Linux 64 bits.

I know that here isn´t a place for advices for hardware, but I want to know if the Macintel Runs Linux without problems, after that, or I will wait for thye eight core Power Macs or will try to switch the processors for quad Xeons, But I want to Run Linux and Mac.

Anyone have advices for this ?

No they do not, if you want 8 cores, you'll need a dual xeon motherboard. Dell has some nice workstations that will do this now, I was just looking at some myself.

You CAN do this with the current Mac Pro Quads; although, it is extremely possible that Apple will release an 8-core Mac Pro this week at MacWorld anyway though.

Linux on the Intel Macs still isn't 100% from what I remember. AFAIK you still need to use BootCamp since EFI support on the Linux AMD64 port isn't quite there, but most of the hardware should work although just about all of the Linux on Intel Mac reports I've seen have been on the MBP line and not the MP desktops.

Oh and since there's no 8800s for the Mac yet you won't get any firmware screens so you'll need a second, supported video card if you want any of the POST screens to be visible.

Bingo Nothinman; From my research, you can run a 64-bit linux via Bootcamp, although it's technically not supported and has some problems. The CPU & RAM upgrade is the only thing that will definitely work without any problems whatsoever.

Ooops, for somr reason I presumed he meant as a replacement for the current core duo boxes.

Yeah...the highest MacPro is a dual-chip, dual-core board, making 4 total cores. There have been many articles on upgrading those 2 chips with 2 clovertowns, making 8 total cores. Really nice that it can be done, although a trife bit expensive for my taste ;)

The point is to make renderers faster than with My Dual Opteron 265 4Gigs, I will look for some nice workstation, but I remembered that the mac is one original piece of hardware and software.
I am thinking in substitute 4 workstations with two Mac Pro's Hardware, but if it will be difficult to put Linux on the Box, may I think in a Dell or wait for the New Mac Pro with 8 cores. It will not help me to swap six for a half dozen.:)
There is another point, I am living day by day with Linux, and I am very help with everything Linux haves and Does.
The use of a Mac only justify itself if I use the Mac Software to editions, there is great software.
I can wait for a while until Mac Pro releases a New quad Xeon and see the price too. Probably it will be better than a Dell workstation in terms of price, but there is not only price what interests me, Linux interests me, it's proven to be well productive, defect free and very, very stable. Works without any jitters.
