4th best detection rates according to that AV comparison site, I believe, and EXTREMELY light, and very good interface, two things that aren't always easy to find in a good AV program.

And consider the only three programs that have better detection rates: Kaspersky, good, but slightly bloated, and Norton and McAfee, both extremely bloated.

Either way I've been extremely satisfied so far.

I prefer Zonealarm. Easy to use interface, light, and an awesome detection rate. Picks up WAY more viruses Norton ever did.

Norton being in the top 3 indicates a problem with the comparison site.

Kaspersky only seems to take ~10megs of ram, and performs faster after initial scan.

Nod32 is on my laptop because I only have 512MB ram in it. I'm considering dropping it though. I hate the interface and don't trust it like Kaspersky.

I love Kaspersky's interface, but NOD32's is just as good, especially compared to something like AntiVir. I liked Kaspesky but far too often, even on the Recommended real-time protection level, it would just start scanning files for no reason and really hang up my system. It got annoying. So it has the best detection rates. Skip 2nd and 3rd (Norton and McAfee), and then you arrive at....NOD32.

Takes more than that. It has certain processes that are hard to identify in task manager, i went thru them one by one to find the memory results in this thread.

Check out the the Virus Bulletin, The Wild list, ICSA labs etc. NOD32 has a far better track better track record than Kapersky,Mcafee, Norton, AVG.

I'm currently using AntiVir and I love it. I switched from AVG, another great AV.

It's only using ~10mb's :D

AV apps are a waste of resources for advanced users

i install AVG free version, run, and uninstall every few months and havent found a virus in years

Haven't used one in years and I never get viruses.

How do you know?

because he is 1337, i bet

I run the trendmicro online scan every once in a while and I check my process list and msconfig to see if there's anything new in there. Windows is fairly secure now as long as you're computer savy enough not to accidently download a virus.

Yeah Antivirus is sort of a waste if you pay attention to your computer and use a good firewall. I've been infected twice by trojon/virus style software (since 98) - the first was becaues I was lacking a firewall at the time and was missing a WinUpdate (IIS exploit) (many years ago) and the one more recent time I knew right away that I was infected and I just downloaded Antivirus software and cleaned it up. I do use adaware, sygate and scan every so often online. I find antivirus software to be annoying hogging the system and doing stuff I do not want it to.

IMO its all about how smart you are with your computer. My girlfriend for example got a email a couple years ago that told her to check for some files and if it was there to delete them because it was part of a virus (her friend had sent it to her). Anyways they were important files for Internet Explorer and it messed things up pretty bad.

Anyways that being said, i'll probably check out NOD32 just because it sounds interesting and maybe it would be good for my work since we use F-Prot (Which sucks) and if I really like and if it runs silently without bagging on my system maybe I'll use it at home.

I have used and been a reseller for NOD32 for quite awhile. I have dozens of clients and companies that can back up it's reputation.

Plus, if you really want to hear more about it, go to it's support forum at wilderssecurity.com.
