I thought it was for macs only before I clicked it. I didn't know it was windows compatible. Very interesting.

Yeah my mouse didn't work in it either and the report I read on it ranked it in last place, basically it sucks. Who would use it besides the people stuck on pc's who like the mac platform? Most Macie's that I know use Firefox.

Killed my ability to open my Yahoo Mail from Yahoo Messenger. Even after uninstalling it, when I click on the New Mail message in the taskbar, nothing comes up. Before Safari, Yahoo Mail would come right up in Firefox, and that was a pretty important feature. At this point, I've uninstalled Firefox and Yahoo Messenger and reinstalled them, and problem still exists. Firefox is set as my default browser as well.

Ugh, I hate it...so much.

It is less secure. It was cracked within 2 hours.

:Q I wanna read more on that... link me please?

Guess from all the negatives and no positives so far (here or the web) I would not even bother to download and try it.

I, for one, am glad they came out with it - now I can check how my web site looks in Safari. Not that it commands a huge market, but I get about 5% Safari hits, and wanted to make sure the site behaves for these folk.

I wouldnt count on it being the same on Windows as Macs. Im guessing most of your Safari hits are from Mac users.

Here's an internet applications developer's take on it:

The render engine is the same on Macs and Windows - the real reason it has been released is that apple is trying to woo windows (and linux to a lesser degree) devs for the iPhone. Macs, despite the neat press, are still - and probably always be - a very very small segment of total computers in use. The iPhone, like the iPod, will aim to cross over into mainstream land the way the mac never will. Part of that is getting as many third party (windows) developers writing cool stuff for it. A version of safari will be on the iPhone; and as things stand now the only way to run third party code is via safari.

The browser sucks though. It isn't even very popular among mac users.

It is not as fast as advertised.
Nasty crashes on some pages that FF, IE, Opera handle just fine.
Is not as secure as advertised - it might be more secure on the mac than on windows, but the windows version is very open.
Lacks plugin support ala FF
Lacks even the miniscule customization possible in ie6 and ie7.

Is one more @$@# browser I need to make sure code runs in - thank god most stats show its only about 1.5-2% of visitors.

Huh? Safari is Safari, if it's not, it's a bug. Prior to a few days ago, Safari hits would have been all Mac's , duh.

Anything beats IE, so Safari would be a good option. However, Opera is the best browser, and it's free. So why settle for less?

While this browswer is pretty darn fast, it doesnt support the back button on your mouse. Noticed this about 10 seconds after I installed it. Completely worthless.

As Mac OS user, i don't even use Safari (using Firefox instead). This cannot replace IE. No way..

i tried, but its just not competitive against firefox. srolling had a bit of jerkiness as well, and i'm not talking about smooth scroll or instant settings type difference, it was a combination laggy+jerky:p

missing functionality it would need for me to bother...
tabsmixplus
videodownloader
pdf downloader
all in one gestures
colorful tabs
downthemall
flashblock
adblock

and of course access to advaned options. sometimes apple takes the simplicity too far. just add another tab or something in options yeesh.
