Ammo to defend the lie Biden is responsible for high gas prices. Oil is a global commodity, and our production is close to the record levels just before Covid. It is predicted US production will hit those levels again.

Unexpected
For all the belly aching they do over pipelines, drilling, etc. You would think America's energy sector was a depleted wasteland.
I myself would have assumed a longer recovery time from the shock of the Pandemic.

You don't hear about it because it hyping it up would have a two-fold effect.

1) R's won't believe it and will keep harping about how when Trump was in charge, the U.S. was "energy independent" for like, 12 YEARS!!
2) It will piss off progressives worried about the environment.

The Biden campaign knows few people vote based on environmental issues so it's "drill, baby, drill" and "dig, baby, dig". The Biden administration's approach to "strategic minerals" is to subsidize the mining industry far beyond the normal handouts. It made a bit of sense until DOE added copper to the list of strategic minerals based on nothing but industry lobbying.

Right now oil is $78/barrel and California gas is $4.92. I did some checking and oil prices peaked $147/barrel July 2008. Price of gas in CA July 2008 was around $4.70.

Tell me again the oil companies aren't profiteering???

Don't listen to right wingers tell you otherwise. The information is out there for everyone. Don't get it from CNN or Fox News.

But...but...Biden stifled oil production!!!

Actually, the US has been #1 for a while. Can't tell that to the lemmings watching Fox News.

Normally I wouldn’t post from this jackass but Trump penned an op-ed making campaign promises to you people bragging that during his term gas was as low as 1.87. Someone using this as evidence of his successes means anyone who voted for him has to be a complete moron. Searching your short term memory you would recall what else was going on when gas was 1.87. Most people here are intelligent so I won’t insult that just point out the sheer stupidity of a Trump voter.

It looks like someone in the Biden administration is on the ball. I wonder who it is?

It's not one persons. It's having the proper people, in the proper positions, that work together to achieve success. That's how good leadship works. It's not about taking credit or giving credit when you work together on goals that are best for this country and it's people.

It's all about a war the Pubs want us to walk away from. How do you think we're getting NATO onboard. It's environmentally irresponsible but it is what it is.

Anyone who is not a moron (the entire GOP base), knows that world economics control oil prices. Trump has no direct control over oil prices. Biden has no direct control over oil prices. Now, the POTUS can enact policies that help or hinder industries that do have a more direct say in oil prices, but the POTUS has no direct control.

A major part of oil prices is the terrorist organization known as OPEC. They are a cartel. They purposely reduce oil production to keep prices high. That is collusion.

The big oil consumption nations such as the US and China also control oil prices. The US economy is going strong, but China's economic stagnation is helping to keep gas low.

China's recent oil finds (some of it is shale oil which is hard to extract), can only help keep oil prices in check in future years as well.

One thing we can do is we can pivot to increased renewables, that will help as well. The goal of renewables creates a cycle where we create minimal pollution going forward. And also creates a situation where we rely less and less on fossil fuels. And that's one example where the POTUS's policies designed to help renewables can help affect oil prices long term.

I hate calling it green energy because everything requires causes some pollution. At the very least on the manufacturing side, things like metals and rare earth elements need to be dug up and refined, and that usually takes water and energy and can create toxic byproducts. The goal of renewables is to make sure we can contain any waste byproducts, whether it is making it inert, or storing it somehow, and also to make sure the materials we use can be recycled.

We're never going to be completely removed from fossil fuels. at least not any time soon, and I doubt we will move away from it in our lifetimes, but if we can drastically reduce our fossil fuel usage, the environment will be better, global warming will lessen, and we will not be at the mercy of a foreign nation. I will never understand the GOP opposition to renewables, since it can only strengthen our nation's independence.

This is why at the DeSantis Newsom debate Newsom should have spent time explaining this very thing. Inflation and gas prices is something people care about and most people are blaming Biden.
