US News and World Reports will publish a poll of the brightest, best informed, most prestegious and intellectually awake Americans, Ivy League Professors. Can't remember all the numbers, but the best President in 40 years was Clinton 40%, Carter 13% Bush Senior 2%, Nixor and Ford 1% each, and George Bush junior 0%.
Even Fox News says only 49% will reelect Bush.

Have a pretzel!

Well, then we must consider the source.

Yep. guess who is going to be writing the history books. Some professor sitting in Ithaca NY, or New Haven CT, or Cambridge MA, or even at Berkeley CA. If conservatives want to get their word in, better start majoring in history.

Late breaking news 57% Democrat and maybe only 26% Clinton, but still the biggest vote getter.

Sluggo, what kind of pretzel? I think it will be known as DEEP PRETZEL. So the dogs just stand there while poor Bush, choaking on a pretzel falls face down to the floor. Some caller says, 'them dogs don't hunt."

That Carter comes in second dooms any credibility that the "Ivy League professors" may have had for the briefest nanosecond, before you even told us what they had to say. Not to mention, asking "ivy league professors" about the best President, is like asking your auto mechanic about what the best caviar is, or your barber about who his favorite quantum physicist is.

So who did the counting for this poll? The people of Florida or is it Moonbem himself? The numbers keep changing as time goes on!! Or is it that Moonbeam is grasping at straws and pulling numbers and "facts" out of his butt? ;)

That is just too funny :) I never thought about asking my auto mechanic what the best caviar is, or the finest wine for that matter.....

Clinton is gone and done with, out with the old and in with the new....good riddence least IMHO

As a conservative, I CELEBRATE that poll! LOL Ivy League college professors (and most college professors in general) are VASTLY Liberal. 49% would Re-elect Bush? THATS AMAZING! LOL

Thats like going into an NRA meeting and asking if Clinton was a good president! LOL

Remember the old phrase, those who can't, teach :D

Being bright doesn't necessarily mean he was moral and honest.

I'd rather have Bush than an unethical criminal...

These people just cant let go of Billy. He was nothing more than a "Carny" a shyster, a sham. And if 49% of the intellectual Left would re-elect Bush, THAT IS SOMETHING.

According to the Ipsos/Reid/Cook Poll (Jan 4-6, 2002):

30% Definitely Re-elect Bush
45% Probably Re-elect Bush
12% Definitely Not Re-elect Bush

This would indicate a landslide victory for Bush if the elections were today.

Of course, considering the state of patriotism in the country at the moment, I would expect these numbers to change by 2004 as that patriotism begins to settle. It will also be interesting to see what happens when you actually introduce an democratic opponent into the mix.

Personally, I'm a democrat but I think Bush has done a good job so far and would consider voting for him (the first time ever for voting for a republican president) if he continues handling things as well as he has so far.

Where's JFK? Surely the Ivy Leaguers would see him as one of their own. Given the probable age of the professors (similar to mine) when they grew up (post assassination) the nation lionized JFK. At least in New England, it seems like half the schools and public buildings built in the sixties were named after JFK.

Where's LBJ? Surely he must be recognized as probably the most politically astute President, perhaps ever, and certainly one of the most effective in getting his agenda enacted. The Great Society, Civil Rights Acts, the Space Race (Kennedy's idea, LBJ's implementation) and, unfortunately, Vietnam.

My thoughts on Carter- Carter almost certainly should be classified as one of the best and brightest-and what he accomplished in his life is awesome, but he was a totally ineffective President. His penchant to micromanage everything and not delegate authority, coupled with a complete inability to effectively deal with Congress, doomed his presidency.

All in all, I wouldn't place a whole lot of weight on this "study" other than as a conversation piece.

I find this thread refreshing, too see so many democrat professors would vote for a republican is a great thing, times are changing.

Curious who the democrats would put up against Bush next election? In the last election when Bush was depicted as a dolt, you put your best and brightest-Gore and he lost. Whether you admit the loss or not you CAN'T deny the democrats best and brightest against the republican depicted as a dolt, the election was 50/50. Next election Bush WON'T be the underdog...can you say landslide!
