Actually a great point and something to think about.

But really some of the that stuff was just out there. A wall? Really? Hillary would let in 650 million people in her first week as president.

A lot of it was obviously joking. The media took it to be serious. This is where your point comes in. Some of us saw the statements for the jokes they were. But a lot of his supporters took it all at face value.

Maybe the wall wasn't the factor they voted for him but they weren't deterred by that kind of talk. In any case the wall isn't as "evil" as liberals like to say. It is our country and we don't mind immigrants but just come in legally. Every country has the right to enforce its borders in any way it sees fit.

There were definitely some people who believe in the wall. Nobody can help those people.

Things I thought were out here was the time he called out a Hispanic judge as Mexican. I think that should have deterred some people. Overall though I think people have a capability for forgiveness and also understanding that nobody is perfect and every candidate will have points you don't agree with.

But seriously I think he sees this as a nice acting job. In some ways this guy reminds me of Reagan. I wonder what his real qualifications were. I know he spent more time in politics than Trump but Reagan clearly won due to his charisma and his acting background put him in office.
 
What's wrong with banning muslims?

Would be immigrants and even visitors from non visa waived countries are constantly bombarded with paranoid inquiry into whether they're communists. I assume people who don't make the necessary, boring declaration to the contrary are refused entry (or just frowned upon? executed?).

Nobody whines about communist holiday makers or immigrants being discriminated against upon entry, who seem similarly situated to muslims. They both involve ideologies incompatible with the U.S. The constitution wouldn't protect foreigners from such scrutiny, and we can just hope that American muslims grow out of it or something.

Given the technology at our disposal the Wall makes as much sense as a hat full of assholes.

So now i need to google the khan family for context. Thanks a lot. I was a little dubious that anything khan related could render my post bullshit, since my post wasn't particularly khan related, and sure enough, I couldn't find anything.

So Hungarians were allied with Nazi Germany, therefore Hungary today = the Klan? I hope you realize that WW2 had nothing to do with racism or the Holocaust, it had to do with a few major powers fearful of a new rising one. The UK and Russia killed millions of innocents of foreign ethnicity (Bengal famine, Holodomor, etc) during or leading up to WW2, let alone if you look at prior centuries.

Sheriff Joe is gone, and is not Donald Trump.

The point was white nationalism has a rich tradition there as well as the US. Those people and the descendants they influenced aren't dead yet.

That would be our loss I guess. Why should we let in people who hate our way of life? At the moment being Muslim is one of the leading indicators of this. The ban isn't going to happen though, that's been walked back a bit. Should people from that part of the world be scrutinized more than, say, people from Sweden?

My point is that you have a false equivalence in your head where being anti-immigration is on par with supporting random lynchings of non-white people. Tell me how Japan has managed to have closed borders for so long without hanging ethnic Korean minorities from street poles? In your mind, any move towards restriction of immigration is apparently a step that much closer to genocide.

As a point of fact, the klan wasn't about ethnic cleaning, but rather putting darkies in their place. Not really dissimilar from the general approach of their contemporary successors on both sides of the atlantic. If you're looking more for the genocide variety of white nationalism, you'll have to join the military or ask the various forum inhabitants here who've expressed interest at times, I'm sure they can point you to additional resources.
 
I do not think it was racism, at least not for the majority of voters. But for whatever reason Trump's message resonated better with whites, sort of like how Sanders' message did. I guess it is something Dems will have to figure out.

This is different from whether Trump's words and actions were racist, about which I have no second thought.

What is racist about saying the people coming over the border illegally are committing crimes? (Mexican isn't a race by the way)

Somebody should go back and chronicle all of the Obama promises when he was running in 08 and compare to what he got done. Should be an interesting study. Trump hasn't even taken office yet and the lefties are already blasting him, not a peep on Obama's failed promises.

Black people voted for Obama at a 93-7 clip and that's ok but whites vote 58-37 for Trump and all the sudden it is a problem.

Saying the Trump win was about racism is incorrect and blind to the realities of a vast swath of America. Democrats can either learn from this or lose again. He was voting because much of America is hurting and also to destroy the politics and corruption that is rampant in DC, drain the swamp if you will. People were absolutely pissed at the state of government, and the dems elected someone who is the absolute epitome of that.

The next four years will be extremely interesting.

That's missighted and wrong. As I said above it's not racism or sexism that got him elected (although some who voted for him I'm sure are racist or sexist), but rather a desire to clean house and take our government back from corruption.
