It's about ratings. Grabbing people's attention long enough to get them to see ads. No matter the medium: Newspaper, TV, internet, etc.

It's the newspaper equivalent of internet ad clickbait.

Indeed. I think a potential first lady or first man is fair game on relevant issues, and I think racy modeling is a relevant issue for the role they generally fulfill.

Trump doing things like attacking the way people's wives look or something similarly irrelevant isn't fair game (ie: he shouldn't), on the other hand.
