Donald J. Trump on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.

The Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that belongs to all law-abiding Americans. The Constitution doesn’t create that right – it ensures that the government can’t take it away. Our Founding Fathers knew, and our Supreme Court has upheld, that the Second Amendment’s purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. This is about self-defense, plain and simple.

It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights. We are the only country in the world that has a Second Amendment. Protecting that freedom is imperative. Here’s how we will do that:

The right to arms is meaningless in today's militarized world.

1: Middle East is proof that those armies fail against a dangerous populace.
2: Self defense would be mostly for other people with guns, criminals or otherwise.

The second amendment is not in any way threatened outside of reflexive talking points from the Democratic politicians. Too many rich liberals would never give up their guns for any serious attempt at gun confiscation. It's nothing more than lip service.

That so. Well why is it that the typical Liberal idiot blow hard always opens his/her fat mouth about the need to regulate guns every damn time there's a shooting somewhere?

It seems like his at form for the 2A is quite reasonable. Still wouldn't vote for him.

He calls for keeping guns out of the hands of the crazy and gang members,... how?

Because you are going to need more than 48 hours to determine who is crazy and / a gang member.

Has any serious high level politician ever said they want to ban all arms? Seems it's just boogie man speak.

The right to bear arms is a last backstop to keeping our government honest.

Like I said, arms today are totally useless. T a can of gas like the Buddhist monks do. You'll have better luck and appear to actually be serious.

Wait...

You think our government is honest because of guns?

I've never understood that argument. Yeah, we spend billion on defense, but our government is afraid of some guy with an AR-15? Yup, makes perfect sense.....

You do not seem to get it. Go back and read some history books. Not sure how much History is covered anymore since schools just focus on memorizing for NCLB testing.

I strongly support the 2nd amendment and the individual right to bear arms, however it does concern me a bit that the 2nd is the only amendment in the Bill of Rights that does not safeguard against mob rule, and that Trump has been pandering to the angry mob throughout his campaign.

You mean like the Whiskey Rebellion? I believe that went well.....

Our government isn't afraid of some guy with an AR, he'd barely make a headline. But it is afraid of millions of armed citizens.

Still, I don't buy this NRA rhetoric that the government wants to confiscate all the privately owned guns.
First, gun manufacturers are big business that the government depends on for tax revenue and to make guns for the military. Without private sales, the government would lose that tax revenue and would have to spend more on arms for the military.
Second, the fact that so many private citizens in the US own guns is one of the reasons why the US is the best defended country on the planet. Without those gun owners, the government would have to spend more time and money on homeland defense, and would have fewer resources for foreign military activities.
And finally, the very notion that the government could successfully outlaw private gun ownership is extremely flawed. The government couldn't stop potheads from smoking weed FFS, and there are more gun owners than there are potheads.

I have a pretty large arsenal myself.

Just when I see things like this it's a bit ridiculous.

I'm not convinced that the government could win a Whiskey Rebellion if it happened today. See the Bundy incident from last year. The 4th estate is considerably more powerful today.

So what in your view keeps government "honest"?? In other words what keeps our government from openly becoming a complete totalitarian state where it just chucks the US constitution into the dumpster?
