I was thinking that we should consider privatizing the presidency...oops too late.:p
You jest, but that's essentially what's happened to the Trump/Tillerson State Department. So many unfilled jobs, so many contractors and consultants walking the halls with no leadership in sight.

Does this mean those geniuses in the TSA who weigh five hundred pounds each and barely speak English would be sent back to McDonald's or their local homeless shelters? If so, I'm all for it.
Why would spinning off the FAA into a non-profit private entity have anything to do with TSA employees, when they're not part of the FAA?

You do know that the TSA isn't ran by the FAA, right?

That combined with income divergence to continue separating the 1% from the rest of reality. I am currently writing a research paper on autonomy and its impact on our society which is where I learned just how far along it really is. For working people in logistics its about to replace you on a larger scale. Taxi drivers are about to go the way of the dodo bird with companies like Uber, Lyft, Udacity, Waymo and Voyager all rapidly developing SAE level 5 autonomous shuttles.

Truck drivers are about to feel the sting as well with SAE level 5 tractors combined with long range hybrid LEV and EV units replacing diesel tractors in the very near future. Companies like Nikola have integrated the shipping side into their trucks eliminating the need for dispatchers and planners as well as maintenance personnel. Freightliner and Peterbuilt both have gas turbine/electric hybrids undergoing validation testing that when combined with autonomy will eliminate the need for a human driver altogether. Then we have to consider the impact they will have on the petroleum industry when their largest fleet customers stop using diesel.

You might think that this will take a while but you are mistaken. U.S. XPRESS is the largest commercial trucking company in the country and they replace their tractors every two years meaning that this turnover will occur quickly. Currently they are backing Nikola and Freightliner and will start incorporating their latest units into their fleet just as soon as they become available. I've seen the fuel savings estimates of using autonomous trucks in a convoy which will only require a human driver in the lead vehicle with the rest following at a specific distances to take advantage of the reduced drag. This NASCAR style drafting is possible because the trucks are in continuous contact with each other so if the front truck has to brake that data is shared with every truck in the convoy so they will simultaneously take the same action.
You know, as someone that has been an OTR driver, I can appreciate the potential elimination of planners and dispatchers, because somehow, these larger companies manage to hire people that don't know what the hell they're doing in those offices.

Wrong addresses; wrong appointment times/days; not knowing exactly who picked up a load; not knowing exactly where their trailers are; swearing up and down that a customer has several empties, and that I'm not looking...

Good riddance.

This is just for air traffic controller positions, no? essentially would be a non-profit wing of some such and there is still an FAA, because the FAA is much more than just air traffic control.

Our rise to the top was largely kicked off by WW 2, IIRC. Want to learn? Look up corporate tax rates from that era. Our government didn't just print money to get where we are.

When you realize that the "slow steady decline of American exceptionalism and pride" that has been the fundamental definition of the addled conservative brain, represents the exact period or lower tax rates, less development and spending, less government research and expensive innovation, you realize that the realization of the conservative canard of the supply-side inequality generator actually represents the great, evil counterpoint to the decades that conservatives always wanted back: up to 90% tax rates, America kicking ass over the smoldering corpses and starving, war-strewn world outside our borders, but damn: we sure kicked ass with those microwave ovens, TV dinners, and glorious cooling towers forming the backdrop for our Saturday afternoon, kerosene and coal-flavored packaged meats.

Ah, when we were great.

Once you get past the full size pickups our greatness declines rapidly.
