Trump surrogate Jay Sekulow is laying the groundwork for firing Mueller

Just heard him on Meet the Press...I wonder if he'll say the same thing on Face the Nation.

Basically, he said that the basis for Mueller's investigation was Comey leaking classified information, so the investigation was started under false pretenses. He was deflecting on questions about Trump Jr's meeting.

Well, he can talk that game, but making it happen is another matter.

First, "but the info was leaked!" isn't a good excuse. There's a degree of irony to a Trump surrogate claiming that the means of obtaining information matters when the Trump campaign got an edge through Russian government hackers passing information on to WikiLeaks. Here's a hint, Sekulow: so long as the info itself isn't tainted, the investigation is fine.

The other part, of course, is simply how it would look to the public. Firing Mueller would please the administration and those Trump fans who believe they have to protect Dear Leader at all costs, but most people would rightly see that as another obstruction of justice. I know the Trump administration is ultimately a test to see how much overt corruption Republican supporters will tolerate, but firing the special counsel to thwart an investigation is hasty even by that metric. Pace yourself, Trump, you don't want to hand the 2018 mid-terms to the Democrats on a silver platter... although you might anyway.

Considering the investigation started a year ago and Comey leaked nothing nor instigated the investigation itself it's a BS point anyway.

His actions lead to the appointment of Mueller because Trump fired him and it was obvious he did it to try to make things go away.

Party of personal responsibility strikes again.

Whether they fire him or not, the investigation is going nowhere. A year and not a single grand jury or subpoena? Wow, so Justice.

Anybody remember how many people got subpoenaed or dragged before congress for Hillary's emails? I can remember the IT people for Hillary were definitely subpoenaed and Hillary was dragged before a 9 hour interrogation in congress. Seems like when the FBI wants to go after somebody powerful, they do it. Yet, not when that person is Trump-related.

Trump was just too retarded to understand that his buddy Comey wasn't actually doing jack about investigating him. His paranoia resulted in him trying to get Comey to "stop doing things" which made Comey paranoid and resulted in him writing memos and now we have this spat between friends (Trump campaign and FBI). They are all good ole boys who will work it out amongst themselves, no subpoenas or grand jurys and definitely no trials necessary here.

I think you have your investigations mixed up.

Cool conspiracy theory, bro.

I dont know, I half expect firing Mueller will yield zero response... they are getting away with it. There have been so many lies that people are getting numb to them.

Firing Mueller would invoke the same shitstorm as Nixon's Saturday night massacre. It merely delayed the inevitable.

If they're not dirty, why do they act dirty?

Maybe, maybe not.

The Rs who matter don't care and may very well be in on the conspiracy. (Smoke is there, rumors are leaking, and their behavior is suspicious. Maybe all they care about is policy, or maybe they are part of the cover up.)

If Justice and defence of the Union rests on the integrity and patriotism of GOP leadership then we are in a very dark place.

Simply because they can, and over 46% of Americans don't care if they get away with it. This is a long festering issue in American business and politics... There's a reason why academics have lamented the state of ethics training in schools and businesses for several decades. You have the perfect storm of capitalism excusing greed and unethical decisions as a means of getting ahead, and Christian principles providing a means of absolution for one's sins.

Repubs are paralyzed. Ask Nunes how that happened. If Trump can cover his shit, they'll go along with it. If he can't, they'll turn on him like Brutus turned on Caesar.

I think enough will be, only need 10 or so.

Linsey & Little Marco are two right there. This is the problem with how Trump burned every bridge to win
Sort of implies he will burn any bridge to keep winning too, doesn't it? I don't know what politician wouldn't anticipate that.

At what point do Republicans look ahead, freak out, and cut their losses from 2016?

Can't unless forced. All the irrationality cultivated among their base has become Trump devotion. The base believes in Donald Trump a helluva lot more than they believe in their own Party.

Wonder if the RNC hack is keeping R in a ransom-like chokehold/blackmail situation and thats why they go along with anything?

What a fascinating thread full of such interesting perspectives. Kudos to all who contributed, or to all others and so far at least. What in interesting time we live in.

I just people would stick to the facts. Unlike the lemming who claimed investigations went on for a year. The actual Russia meetings and hack occurred one year ago.

I notice the Trump lawyer lie spewed out today opposition research has no monetary value. That would be a basis for a DJR crime.

Campaigns pay all the time for oppo research. There are companies in DC who specialize in compiling it.

It has value
