Trump seems to be getting ever-more fascistic

This is really out-there rhetoric. And what is it with Trump's long-standing fixation with "blood"?

Condemned for his previous remarks at the last rally he held in New Hampshire – where he threatened to “root out the communists, Marxists, fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country that lie and steal and cheat on elections” – Trump appeared to double down in Durham on Saturday.

“They’re poisoning the blood of our country. That’s what they’ve done,” Trump told the crowd.

“They poison mental institutions and prisons all over the world, not just in South America … but all over the world.

“They’re coming into our country, from Africa, from Asia, all over the world.”

Oh, and Sunak's not much better

the prime minister said that “enemies” were “deliberately driving people to our shores to try to destabilise our society”.

(The photo on that article has me wondering if there's a basis for a far-right version of that godawful "Love Actually" movie)

Seems as if "mainstream" conservatives everywhere have decided the way to hang on to power is to appeal to the extreme anxiety and fear that appears to have taken hold of old people - the fear that the national borders are being undermined, or that everyone is secretly voting illegally and elections are being rigged. Paranoia seems to be the prevailing mood of the older generations, and the right has decided to play up to that at all costs.

The same stupid fear mongering has happened with every wave of immigration.

And yet still leading in the polls.

This country is broken. Guess it's our turn at an authoritarian state.

The question historians will ask (if any exist in the future), is how did the Democrats fail to capitalize on such a flawed party/candidate, or were the majority of voters simply that blood thirsty against their fellow citizens?

I suspect the answer is both.

Looks like Trump's speech writers need to have much deeper security background checks done because it seems as if they and Trump have a direct line of communication with Putin, because Trump is making Putin's most fervent dreams of crippling the USA from the inside out come true.

And we also have millions upon millions of his supporters backing his play, both here at home and over there in Russia, China and their client states.

That's what happens when Trump and the GOP apparatchiks have absolutely nothing better to offer the nation's voters than what Biden and the Democrats have been giving the working class folks of America over the entire length of his tenure.

Liberals have failed to protect borders, that's the problem. I'm no conservative, but you have to have an immigration system that is humane but strict.

You can't have everyone coming in to countries and not following guidelines, etc.

I do not know any country on Earth that is not broken right now.

Control borders, raise minimum wage, ease up on the SJW stuff a bit and things will get back to normal for most of the world.

That's how you can end far rightism in it's tracks. They're reactionaries, they are reacting to that...
The appeasement argument falls flat under the reality that reactionaries will always find things to react against.

He's panicking because he can see jail time becoming a genuine thing in his future.

Sunak is being as bit cleverer in that there’s a genuine issue in Eastern Europe of Putin directing lots of immigrants across borders to cause instability.

Yes Sunak is talking to a far right government in Italy and also to xenophobes in the UK but if he's called on it he'll fall back to that European security argument.

Seems maybe a "plausible deniability" thing, with a bit of "dog-whistling" thrown in. There's not exactly a direct-line between what happens at the Belarus/Polish border and boats in the channel. But those that want to hear it can take it as a version of the "Great replacement theory".
