Routh was registered as an unaffiliated voter in North Carolina, but appears to have voted in the most recent Democratic primary in March, according to state records.

In 2019 and 2020, he gave a number of small donations totalling around $140 (£106) to ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising organisation, according to online federal elections records.

An Associated Press photo of a truck outside Routh's Hawaii home displayed a Biden-Harris campaign sticker on the back.

His account on X, formerly known as Twitter, has now been suspended, and it included a number of posts about Trump.

I read that too and like most shooters going after someone famous he has a history of being nutty. Not going to call him a democrat or republican.
He was able to get an unregistered gun as in the serial number was scratched off. Which I know you are against so let’s not speak of that it will only derail stuff.

Agreed, sadly we as a country (and as a forum) are not able to address the low hanging fruit which is why was a nutty guy with an arrest record allowed to buy a gun which in this case appears to be illegally but regardless we need to know how it happened so it can be prevented.
Politics will always get in the way.

It means he lied about having a clean record and they found out. Lots of people with no military experience volunteer for the International Legion. Typically you are sent to an infantry training course in the West or fill a non combat role, at least initially.

The International Legion will not accept volunteers with criminal records. You must be both prosecution and conviction free, no exceptions. He lied, so they said go home, we don't even want you helping to drive trucks. Sorry man, you want the French Foreign Legion.

Fine, It may be as such. I was only passing information from the quoted article from the bbc...

However, most of his organising appears to have happened while he was in the US, not in Ukraine, where in 2022 he was rejected by the country's International Legion due to his lack of combat experience.

Gave donations to Democratic candidates...but voted for Trump in 2016. Became heavily committed to supporting Ukraine, wrote a self-published book where he denounced Trump for destroying the deal with Iran (and blamed himself for voting for Trump, and called for Iran to assassinate both Trump and himself!).
But in 2020 he supported Tulsi Gabbard (fellow all-over-the-shop political oddball). But then voted for Biden. And then started supporting Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley.

It's as if Lee Harvey Oswald set the template for these guys. Be so contradictory in your political activities that people will be arguing for decades over what side you were actually on.

Do we know it was legally purchased in this case?

He was a convicted felon.
Did he grind off the Serial Numbers or did he acquire it that way from some black market seller?
