TRUMP on Obamacare

In 1979 my uncle had a heart attack. He was lucky enough to make it to the local hospital.

The hospital was not setup for cardiac patients. My uncle was put in an ambulance to make the almost 100 mile trip to the nearest hospital that had a cardiac unit.

My uncle died while in transit.

From 1979 - 2012 nothing has changed. The local hospital has not expanded its facility to offer any kind of specialized care.

High risk pregnancy? You are shipped off.
Heart attack? No use in even stopping.

A couple of the local doctors are building their own out patient clinics. Hopefully with some competition in town the larger hospital will be forced to upgrade its services.

Back to the OP.

If the current rural hospitals can not provide services right now, what is going to happen with millions of people get insurance?

People that have not had a check in years are going to head down to the local doctor. We are going to see a sudden surge in patients, and no way to handle the extra load.

Providing insurance to people is great, but we have to have a way to provide the service. Doctors are already backlogged 2 - 3 weeks. In some cases the doctors are booked out to a month, or more.

You live in South East Texas, just a short drive away Houston which houses the greatest medical facilities in the world. The reason your local hospital sucks is because the medical resources are all centered there.

Short memories? Why would we remember something that's a complete lie? Hell, you can't even get the lies correct. First, the number being thrown around by the crazies was 1,000 or so, not 16,000. Secondly, that number wasn't even remotely close either. The actual number was 291 but get this - the majority of then (193) are to make sure people get the right tax CREDITS, not to enforce it.

Yet he didn't address health care at all. He decided to play the insurance card. Obama may have access, but "knowledgeable" people are quite concerned and the CDC doesn't have the answers because the work hasn't been done. On day one the experts should have been consulted and allowed to formulate a rational comprehensive plan. This is hardly that, and it was never attempted, so Republican obstructionism is not the issue. Obama and Trump really are willfully ignorant. That does not stop them from talking nor using their power.

Rural areas are always going to be underserved because it is not cost effective to serve them more.

If we can have highways going through rural areas, why cant we have health care?

Maybe rural communities could do more to attract older doctors?

There are a couple of doctors in my community who live on farms. They have anywhere from 30 - 80 acres of land, have horses or cattle. They live a nice rural lifestyle and contribute a lot back to the community.

Because you don't need a population base in an area to support a highway running through it. You do need a population base to support health services, and the more complex, difficult and expensive the services, the more population you need to make it worthwhile.

There will always be doctors in rural areas. And basic hospitals with basic services. But it's not economically feasible to set up a state-of-the-art hospital in most rural areas because the costs are mostly fixed and there aren't enough people to use the services to recoup those costs.

I live in the most rural state in the nation, and it's just part of the cost of living away from cities.

The way that the vast majority of Americans access healthcare is with insurance. It's the gateway. I'll agree that care itself has enormous problems, but they're hard to deal with if you can't get it in the first place.

Rational comprehensive plan? Only if we're willing to rip the current system out by its roots. Not likely, given the enormous difficulty of merely improving access. We're stuck in the realm of the possible.

When someone posts a thread entitled "TRUMP on Obamacare", they are implying that the person making the statement is important. Seems entirely valid for people to respond on that basis.

This is how the world works. There are billions of people and they all have beliefs and opinions on this or that. It is rational judgment to decide whether or not to care about a person's opinions based on his past track record. Donald Trump is an egomaniacal, self-serving, patently dishonest, racist buffoon -- people have every right to point out that they don't care about what he has to say for those and other reasons.

His statement was that there are no new doctors. That was a lie.

16,000 new IRS agents? The number is also not 1,600. That was a total request for all agents to bring staffing up to where it needed to be, and was not related to the ACA. The number of agents requested to implement the ACA according to the IRS is 291, with less than 100 of them being in enforcement. Claiming a number that is 5,400% higher than what it actually is... is a lie.

As for your ideas about congressional staff and social security, I don't know what to do other than shake my head. The idea that a congressperson would be well versed enough in every policy area to effectively read and understand every bill that comes by them is sheer lunacy. It's just showing a staggering ignorance of how policy works.
