I couldn't find anything about what Trump said in the OP's link, so here it is from elsewhere. Maybe it will prove to be so.

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday touted the economy during wide-ranging remarks at a White House business session with the nation’s governors — and predicted that the deadly coronavirus would no longer pose a threat once warmer weather arrived.

“The heat, generally speaking, kills this kind of virus,” Trump said in the State Dining Room.

“A lot of people think that goes away in April as the heat comes in,” Trump said without explaining further. “We’re in great shape though, we have 12 cases, 11 cases, but we’re in very good shape.”

"His hope is our hope," said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, "But we don't have knowledge that it will do that."

Yea, the OP seemed to be about Trump's border patrol blowing up a native American burial site and praising China for their drug dealer death penalty, gg 'Murica

Not that I think Trump knows anything, but isn't this what happened with SARS?

The issue with believing that'll happen again, is it doesn't happen with other types of Coronaviruses, for example the MERS.

Considering this is now at least the third outbreak from this virus family in 17 years, we should no matter what fund research into a universal vaccine for Coronaviruses. But if this dies out, everyone will be like "nothingburger" and funding will get cut... Again.

Well it might actually work that way. And then it might not. While it's ok to be hopeful that seasonal change will eradicate the virus, it's incredibly reckless to make this assumption.

There is no scientific basis in Trump's statement. MERS is a coronavirus first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

April in the US hasn't heat to compare to the Middle East. Diseases come and goe but the statement Trump made is merely another example of exemplary ignorance.

Most coronaviruses are associated with the common cold which definitely exhibits seasonality, although I'm not sure if any data on that is specific to coronavirus since so many viruses cause colds esp. rhinovirus. It is unclear whether SARS exhibited seasonality, although the outbreak ended in June/July timescale.

All that said, you're right that there is no scientific basis being that there is no data, no known mechanism, and that the statement is ignorant at best.

Trump doesn`t even know basic science -- Since most viruses are deactivated at temperatures between 165 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit, -- So where are we going to find those temperatures.....a warming trewnd will not suffice...

That is wrong! Left untreated even the common cold will not go away, no matter how many blankets you use to stay nwarm......

You heard me! The common cold will of course run it`s course, eventually! But it will not go away just because it is warm outside......I am willing to listen to proof if you have any that i am wrong otherwise -- wut!! back at yaz...

If I had to guess I would say Trump’s staff people are googling stuff and coming up with articles like this where some experts say one outcome could be this coronavirus turns into a seasonal “flu” because of the heat. I doubt he has experts that know this type of stuff. It’s a good article.

2019-nCoV returns repeatedly like a bad seasonal flu
The “seasonal” reflects the fact that viruses can’t tolerate high heat and humidity, preferring the cool and dry conditions of winter and spring, Webby said. That’s why flu, as well as the four coronaviruses, are less prevalent in warm, humid months. If the new coronavirus follows suit, then containment efforts plus the arrival of summer should drive infections to near zero.

I said it was possible....what have you added to this thread.....personally I don`t think it will happen!
but I gave interchange a thumbs up because he took the time to post a link to support his argument as opposed to others....

And as of now, you haven't liked any of interchange's posts. Maybe slow you roll.

And no, if what you do is considered "adding" to the thread, I won't be

What's wrong with you people? President of the United States make a statement concerning a potential pandemic with no scientific evidence to back it up and the response is...

well maybe it will happen??

Have we been so beaten down be all the lies we are now "hoping" a POTUS is telling the truth

I guess when Trump defiled that official NOAA hurricane map it was acceptable to say "well it could go there"

da-fuck?!?

There's a video that popped up on my YouTube feed yesterday "Stop making me defend Trump" which seems to apply here. I believe in factual accuracy. In no way is Trump's view appropriate to the situation. It's highly reckless. I think I've made that clear with my statements. I don't like an insistence on a one-sided view to support a particular stance. I hope people are capable of recognizing the err of Trump even with the knowledge that a seasonal outbreak is a possible course here.
