Meh. You can't say that last bit for sure. The Joint Chiefs & LBJ badly underestimated the resolve of the North & the insurgents in the South. It destroyed Johnson.

None of what happened back then justifies the Trumpian fuckover of today. The way it's all going, Trump may end up as an asylum seeker himself. The irony would be delicious.

That would be wonderful irony but it’s completely unlikely and is it really in the best interest of the country to have a former President flee to Russia.

He probably wouldn't get any further than the Embassy where he could hole up like Assange.

I figure it would be good for the Country if Trump voters found out they voted for a traitor. A fair % of them seem to delight in other people's misery. We're talking about deporting people whose crimes occurred prior to 1995, people that three admins have seen to leave in peace, a giant fuck you to the Vietnamese immigrant community. It's the same message Trump has for immigrants in general other than family, friends & Norwegians.
