Hell, I'd be delighted at the prospect of mediocrity ~ compared to all the unqualified partisan hacks that Trumpy and Moscow Mitch stuffed in.
Precisely...it isn't simple mediocrity...it's blatantly intentional twisting of the law to do harm (to the country) or allow/excuse harm having been done or continuing to be done. It's more than just standing by while it happens, it's actively and knowingly helping in the process.

Articles like this make me want to throw my phone at the wall. Fucking hell.

Along with taking/stealing the classified documents, the orange menace is now claiming that the Woodward Tapes are his as well!

Until we get to see any contract between them, the orange monkey may be right

Because we gave tapes for the written word, not tapes to sell, and that’s always made clear,” he said.

Unless they're simply copies of the original tapes, I'd think Woodward would have a bigger claim to those tapes than Trump would. They were materials for Bob's book, so how are they automatically Donald's property? Because he was on the tapes, speaking? I'm sure that's where his mind goes. "They recorded me, these are now mine!"

FWIW, I don't see how they'd be government documents that need to be returned to the archives. They're tapes, recorded for dictation, for writing a book by a private party (Bob Woodward).

They are Trump's under the made-up rule of "if it might make Trump look bad or implicate Trump in a crime, it's privileged information that belongs in perpetuity to Trump."

They aren't going to indict him before the election. I would bet money this is about something else.
Fun to speculate, but agree this won't be about Trump before the election. As this is DoJ, has to have both some domestic and criminal angle.

Domestic terrorism?
Russia - yet another round of major military export violations resulting in U.S. arrests?
China - arrests for rampant critical military/corporate technology espionage?

Edit: Found this follow-up

My first guess isn’t actually Russia—it’s Saudi Arabia.

Not sure if it’s anything Trump related or in his orbit—but Biden is looking for cover to distance the US politically from the Kingdom and cancel arms sales in a way that gets bipartisan support. This might give him what he needs.

As if it wouldn't be hard enough for his lawyers as it just with the evidence out there. Trump doesn't seem like the type to listen to advice from anyone about anything when he thinks he knows better. And for some reason in his mind he always knows best. I bet he'll continue to spout off about random shit no matter how much they tell him to shut the hell up. Which will undoubtably make everything even harder for his lawyers, who are already fighting an uphill battle.

I find it near impossible to follow his story as he changes them often. But I think he wants me to believe there were no documents, but then claims the FBI planted documents, except he had already declassified all of them. I don't know if he even thinks before he speaks, seems like he doesn't to me.

Meanwhile all of this is non-issues to his followers as many of them seem to think every president ever has taken top secret documents when they left the white house. So why's Trump the 1st to be under the microscope here?

did you know Obama took 13 MILLION pages of documents to his house? I wonder how big his property is as 13 million peices of paper would take up a whole lot of space.
Well the 13 million is in his library the only detail left out is that NARA both approved and still control those documents.

The part i find more disturbing is the 100 million or so people who can't see all the contradictions in his claim. I mean i never really understood how social media is used to drive people to do stupid things because I could never understand the inability of most people to digest the simpliest pieces of information and understand the conflicts in those claims. This isn't just Trump but also China/Russia/Saudi/Iran/et all fuud.

Does Trump belong in Jail - absolutely. He is long overdue. However he also shows how ill-equip the legal system is when dealing with the rich.

DoJ requesting courts force additional testimony from Trump lawyers
