Once that happens you can’t put it back, at least not until you fight it out. Elections turn from a voting/legal battle to a political/military/police one. Basically the winning side rewrites the rules and holds down the losing side until they agree to accept them.

I can see terrorist incidents from whichever side ultimately loses the dispute over who will be POTUS, but I'm not really sure how anything like a civil war even starts here. Without secession this time. So what happens, a bunch of people on each side get together and form an army, then who do they attack and where? What role does the military and national guard play? How will each side even know who is the enemy? Will their be uniforms to tell us apart?

A "civil war" in the classic sense is just not something I see as a terribly likely outcome here.

Don't get me wrong. I think we're very likely facing political violence in the near future, just not that way. So, for example, if Trump goes to jail, I can see the far right plotting terrorist attacks which could result in mass casualty events. Like in Oklahoma City, or a political assassination like those guys in Michigan were planning, but where they succeed.

Such a thing would likely discredit the far right and result in shrinkage. After the bombing in OC, the militia movement reduced in size by two-thirds and did not start coming back until Obama was elected 10 years later. That is one theory of how we "win" this. First there has to be blood which is shed by them. Which is why I have been saying that it's nigh impossible for this not to get worse before it gets any better.

Yes, but in this scenario he has declared a national emergency and indefinitely postponed the 2028 election. He can always appoint Don Jr. as his VP, and then he takes over after Trump dies. This is how dictatorships are perpetuated beyond the life of the original dictator.

Appears the former President is actually a pretty healthy guy despite his bragging.
I’m not saying he is the healthiest man in history and his doctors enjoy ogling at his naked body. I have a suspicion he will be around for a long time.

I don’t know. He might be healthy but he clearly has his doctors tell ridiculous lies about his health so who knows.

Not defending anything. I said at the first of this thread he should be punished as per the law if he illegally possessed classified data.

Well yes but have you tried printing the documents outside a scif ? And yes i should have qualified my statement. I.e, documents aren't provided to Trump in electronic format.
 
Do I think Trump would sell out the country, his mother, his kids or anything else? Yes. If he makes enough money, or adulation, that's all that matters.

I'm leaning toward this whole doc thing being more a childish "those are mine" than "I'll sell these to Vladimir", but either way I hope his hamberder eating ass is nailed over it. A 2nd term Trump is not something I'd like to see, even though this country is so collectively stupid they might elect the guy from the pen.

I think what is lost here is we all have experience with classification is none of this applies to the president. So all these egregious violations we talk about don’t apply. If the president wants to buy a billboard that advertises all our operatives overseas that’s his business.

The thing here is what he did when out of office.
