It would obviously be a better reality where a President hadn’t committed felonies and various other crimes. But the believers don’t see Trump’s past actions as the source of those crimes. They see the beliefs of Trump’s enemies as the source of those crimes. Those enemies are making those crimes exist by choosing to believe they happened. So, Trump’s enemies not Trump himself are the ones who are making these crimes happen. From their perspective, he’s just not guilty of anything - other than being a martyr for the cause, and the unjust target of Biden’s corrupt Deep State. Any crime he’s indicted for or civil suit he’s involved in is just that conspiracy, the Deep State, out to get him.

Along with being a tribal thing: this is my group of people, and we all vote for X because we believe X. You find an authority figure and choose to follow them. You trust the authority figure to make choices for you. You have faith. You identify with the authority figure and feel that attacks on that authority figure are attacks on you personally.

And, Given the number of “Felon 2024” flags and t-shirt's I've seen - A lot of it is just about "owning the libs"
