I mean, they obviously don't care about the optics anymore, it's full-on CYA mode in the Trump Administration. If they thought he was incompetent/unfit for office, couldn't they have named a special prosecutor for Trump Campaign/Russia BEFORE firing Comey?

Shades of Richard Nixon, when he fired two AGs during the Watergate prosecutions. It didn't help in the end. We can predict that there will be even more leaks now from pissed-off FBI agents, and the optics are so bad here, that the thunder will build for an independent prosecutor. He's just slit his own throat with this stupid move.

Hayabusa Rider said:
I have no idea why you would even think that. Trump will select a loyalist and that will be the end of it. When the Director says "No" that's it. The FBI investigation will almost certainly not be ended because of appearences but it will have it's balls cut off. Trump now owns the loyalty of the investigative agencies. It's over, Trump just won.

Anyone care to weigh in on which of these opposing views is correct here? Did Trump just "win" or did he "slit his own throat?" I personally do not know. I hope m8d is correct, but it's far from clear.

I just heard Trumps long term bodyguard (the big bald guy) delivered the termination letter?

This can't be true

:fearful:
Well this is totally Nixonian. It may become to flagrant for congress to ignore. Maybe......

Now to lighten the mood
(Stolen from the inter webs)

There once was a G-man named Comey

A Fed who was nobody's homie

His tenure expired

when Trump said "You're fired!"

so he sent Trump a text that said "Blow me!"

Wow another thing I just heard on the broadcast news is Comey learned about the firing during an FBI conference. The news appeared on a scroll bar on a nearby TV

I'm torn on this. On one hand I think comey was horrible and stepped way out of bounds with regards to he handled the Clinton investigation.

Then on the other hand, trump is corrupt at fuck (based off of his past behavior, before being president), and I can't imagine trump firing comey for any other reason than to cover his own ass.

Time for an independent investigation into trump.

Good luck with the independent investigation. It's the only means left that stands a chance of getting to the truth but I don't see how that would come to be right now but I hope I'm wrong. Hopefully the Dems will make a comeback in Congress and be able to get something done.

Between this and the healthcare bill, GOP reps are going to have a rough time defending trump in the midterms.

That's one of the few bright spots. Even if Trump didn't steal your health care, even if you don't care about the planet, even if you don't care about 'ordinary' corruption or failed promises... well, he just fired the director of the FBI.

So I should be correct in my assumption that this concern for and act of kindness toward Hillary should make Trump's followers feel the fool? Trump didn't send her to prison, he's standing up for her by firing Comey, she must be an alright gal. Now, I expect all you haters to begin saying nice things about the source of this newest move he's made. I mean, she was treated so poorly a man was fired. Come now, show your acceptance of Hillary. I think it's what your Leader would expect.

One wonders if you Trump people ever get a break from streaming your nonsense or if you show obvious signs when your blathering must switch gears to keep up with and continuous support of the buffoon. Maybe it looks like a hiccup? A cough? Clearing your throat/stretching your fingers? ... I would never dare assume you take a moment for thoughtful consideration. No worries, he'll let you know how to move forward with his next tweet. But remember, poor Hillary. Thank goodness Trump saw fit to punish some one for what was done to her. You might not wish she were President but I bet your guy does.

You don't have to be, if you think Trump fired him over mistreating Hillary rather than being self serving then LMAO

He should have been fired then. You may feel differently but what irked me was Comey speaking like an attorney instead of the head of the FBI. He doesn't get to make determinations, especially publicly, on whether prosecutions should be sought. That's not his decision to make. I'm not naive enough to think that the 0bama administration was actually going to go after Hillary, they weren't for obvious reasons, but Comey should not have been the front man for that. Right there he showed that he was a highly partisan individual and that's not the type of person that should be heading up the FBI.

What I find encouraging based on what I've heard so far is that the DOJ and the WH were able to keep this on the down low. I just saw that Comey heard about his firing through the media but I don't necessarily believe that but what I did hear that I believe is that the FBI, as an organization, knew nothing about his firing until it was made public. That's how things are supposed to be done.

Turtle sees the danger, which is why we're probably going to see Senate GOP drag their asses on the healthcare issue as long as possible. As in, nothing until after the midterms. Probably another reason not to involve Susan Collins; can't have all that experience and bipartisan cred get stuff done too soon! Better to deny the opposition ammo in the next battle, then offer up the tax break masquerading as a healthcare plan.

Here's hoping there are plenty of other transgressions that gets this shitbag kicked from office.
