You gotta wonder how bad things are for a POTUS when he has to rely on racists, bigots and supremacists for essential support to win elections.

Same goes for the GOP in general, along with their heavy reliance on gerrymandering, "voter rights" laws and all other manner of disenfranchising and suppressive scams that they have come to rely on to negate the effects that changes in demographics and attitudes have created.

It wouldn't work if Republicans hadn't made it so comfortable for them in their party since 1964.

There is going to be an increase in incidents where people of color are stopped by police that end badly for them. Now cops have a get out of jail free card.

I gotta say, as much as I hate Trump for this pardon (it is a despicable act) I'm surprised at how much media attention Arpaio's policies are getting now, vs. when it was actually happening or when the Justice Dept. brought their case forward. Where was all this outrage 1-2 years ago? I think local/regional media covered it extensively but I don't recall national headlines or features on late night TV. They were too busy with Trump.

I did an informal poll and asked my friends and neighbors what they knew about why Arpaio was convicted, and I got a few mumblings about "tent cities" and "excessive heat" but nobody went into detail about the crappy food, psychological torture, webcams in women's bathrooms or rape incidents not being investigated or prosecuted. Nevermind how he violated the Fourth Amendment or contempt of court charges.

Did the media totally drop the ball here, and might that have helped Trump characterize this lawsuit as a "political character attack" when it was anything but??

The outrage was there. The difference was he was being held accountable for his actions. Now it's a free pass for anyone in law enforcement to wipe their ass with the constitution and send a big fuck you to the judiciary as long as Trump likes them.

Yep, when they made a home for themselves in the GOP House of Exclusiveness and got a nice house warming party out of it, it sure set an ugly precedent that's stood the test of time.

Funny though how the GOP welcomes them with open arms yet go out of their way to emphasize that their official stance is one of abhorrence for what these racists stand for.

Apparently, hypocrisy knows no bounds in the Party of Trump.

I can only hope more conservatives come to this thread to discuss the many sides of this pardon, how there's plenty of blame to go around, or why leftists are the Real racists here.

No, this is about many conservatives lawlessness and lack of respect for the US Constitution. No-one who objectively looks at the facts can argue that Arapaio did not end up targeting merely non-US citizens. Those who persist in supporting this pardon in fact are opposing the rule of law in the United States.
