Manhattan district attorney subpoenas 8 years of Trump tax returns

New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance's office has subpoenaed eight years of President Donald Trump's tax returns from Mazars USA, the longtime accounting firm to Trump and the Trump Organization, as part of its investigation into hush money payments, according to a person familiar with the matter. The subpoena marks a new escalation in the large-scale effort to obtain the President's tax returns, a battle that has largely played out in courts as the Trump administration has continued to stand its ground against efforts to secure any of Trump's financial information. Trump has claimed that ongoing IRS audits have stopped him from making his tax returns public, even though audits don't prevent individuals from releasing tax returns.

Vance's office declined to comment.

The subpoena was first reported by The New York Times. It isn't clear what deadline Mazars USA has to comply with the grand jury subpoena. The firm said it would comply with legal requests. "Mazars USA will respect the legal process and fully comply with its legal obligations," the company said in a statement. "We believe strongly in the ethical and professional rules and regulations that govern our industry, our work and our client interactions. As a matter of firm policy and professional rules we do not comment on the work we conduct for our clients."
Any material obtained by a grand jury subpoena is covered by grand jury secrecy rules and would likely become public only if it were used as evidence at a trial.

Marc Mukasey, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, said, "We are evaluating and will respond as appropriate."
Trump and the Trump Organization reimbursed his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130,000 payment he made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep her from going public with her allegation of an affair with Trump before the 2016 election. Trump has denied the affair.

Prosecutors are looking into whether the Trump Organization filed any false business records in how it accounted for the reimbursement of the payments to Cohen, a source familiar with the matter told CNN last month after the Manhattan DA's office sent subpoenas to the Trump Organization and American Media Inc.

Those subpoenas sought communications between the company and representatives for Daniels and Karen McDougal, who also alleged to have an affair with Trump more than a decade ago. Congressional Democrats have long argued that the release of Trump's personal financial information is an important step in establishing any potential conflicts of interests involving the Trump Organization and details about Trump's financial worth. Last month, a federal judge denied an attempt by House Democrats to fast-track its attempt to force the Treasury Department and IRS to release Trump's tax returns.

DEEP STATE!
FAKE NEWS!

HILLARY!

HIL LAR RY!!!

No seriously, why do millions of people still believe this guy is a decent human being and a good president?

Because those people are bigots and think anyone as blatantly and ragingly bigoted as Trump is good.
It helps that those people are also seriously fucking stupid.

I would say that it's a given that they'll be turned over.

I think they will be turned over eventually but I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is fought tooth and nail by Trump's attorneys as well and results in a significant delay.

Whatever is in them there is one thing that Trump has been absolutely consistent about - he is terrified of any external scrutiny of his finances.

I wonder how many millions a day Trump is willing to pay to delay?

I think if push comes to shove people will be downright shocked at how much he is willing to sacrifice to keep his finances hidden until after the 2020 election. (or until so close to it that nobody has the time to analyze them anyway)

Money will cease to be a factor, when the CEO of Mazars tells Trump: "Fuck your money. I'm not going to jail for you!"

Unlike Congress that just likes to talk and wait, and complain on the news, the DA isn't going to dick around. He WILL put your ass in jail, and being a local boy, that means Riker's Island.

The place is so bad even Dante thought it was over the top for his Inferno.

I do wonder what will happen when Trump's taxes are finally made public. Not so much what will actually be in them as how Trump reacts.

Does he throw the mother of all rants, on camera as well as on Twitter? Does he try to retaliate through legislative means? Hell, I can't help but think the White House would need to put Trump on suicide watch. For him, the illusion of being the successful billionaire is everything -- if his taxes show beyond a doubt that he's a failed fraudster or has been dependent on the Russians, he has nothing.

Barr and some other dickless toadies, including the Fox media "talent" will exhaust all available air time detailing how what was found within the documents really wasn't found, that what you are seeing isn't true, and that "my summary" is better than your eyes and not worth your time doing your own scrutiny because just trust me, "I'm very smart."

And some ~40 million people will feel vindicated by that and believe, until their deaths, that nothing was found. This is what happened to their brains with the Mueller report, and this is what will continue to happen with every damning thing revealed, as will continue to happen, regarding Trump's egregiously criminal history.

The really sad part is the majority of his voter base would have had their taxes in the DA's hand before we read the article. They fail to realize the only reason this hasn't happened is that he is a filthy rich elite and nothing like his voter base. They fail to recognize he doesn't give two shits about them and would break down in a day if he had to live like his typical voter. Now that would be a great reality tv show. "Stranded in West Virginia".

lol, a local DA trying to get a presidents tax records while in office? hahahahahahahah not happening.

why not? It's perfectly legal. Is the president above the law? ...or will you just believe whatever new "law" is invented this week by PABOTUS's lawyers to argue that they shouldn't comply?

anyway, your response is nearly in line with my earlier post, only 21 minutes later

You probably think if they find a body in Trump Tower, that Donny has some super power to keep the DA away from it. And the DA is going after the accounting firm. Make no mistake, the DA WILL THROW SOMEBODY'S ASS IN JAIL if they don't comply.

Since the "local DA" is part of the NY state system which has seized Trump's fraudulent charity assets, and can absolutely sue and prosecute after he's out? Yeah Mazar doesn't want to screw with the NY AG who can take them to court with no possible Federal intervention and hold people in criminal contempt if they so wish.

So with no legal remedy but to hope to obstruct just how will anyone stop them?

When Mazar people are jailed for contempt as they can be, is Trump going to pardon them? That will be funny to see him try.

Trump can't do shit at the state level, and they know it. Wasn't it a DA that shut down Trump University?

I suspect he pulls a Mueller Report and tries to brazen it out and rely on the fact that whatever he's up to probably requires some investigative work to put together. He will claim nobody understands his taxes because they are too complicated and anyway they really show he's worth $900 billion dollars. When people point out criminal activity or fraud or whatever he just claims they are all liars and says if there was something bad in them that the IRS would have found it. (false, as shown by Manafort)

He can claim it from a cell next to Cohen but as a security threat his communications will of necessity need to be limited. He can have his SS security and be in isolation for his own protection for the rest of his life, or so I hope.
