Trump fleecing his campaign donors...

once again, more proof that Trump is a brilliant businessman.

I'm not sure that having your customers find out that you're blatantly fleecing them is suitable attribute for an "excellent businessman". Furthermore I would have thought that likening a significant campaign donor to be more akin to a shareholder, so based on that it seems like an even worse strategy.

Some financial types have suggested that Trump avoids taxes by exaggerating the value of his properties, then using depreciation to show losses & avoid taxes.

So, maybe Trump is charging his campaign x amount of dollars, but will declare that the value of the space was actually much more - therefore, he can write off the donation to his campaign. 😛

Well, those "financial types" should be ignored.

Depreciation deduction for income tax has nothing to do with FMV value of r/e. Tax law requires that 'Historical Cost' be used. I.e., what you paid for a building, not its FMV.

He is still managing to transform donations into profit.

I would think that illegal.

IIRC, campaign contributions can not be converted to personal wealth. I.e., overcharging for rent seems like a way to siphon money from a campaign and convert to personal wealth.

meanwhile: billary, benghazi, emails.

am I doing it right?

There are tons of ways to convert donations to wealth and he's already doing it in a bunch of ways. Last time I checked about 20% of all donations coming in were going to Trump businesses or members of his family. That's a lot.

Donald Trump used his campaign funds to buy thousands of copies of his own book at retail cost, simultaneously diverting donor money back into his pockets while artificially boosting his sales figures. It’s a tactic that may be illegal, campaign finance experts say.

On May 10, the Trump campaign paid Barnes & Noble $55,055, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission. That amounts to more than 3,500 copies of the hardcover version of Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again, or just over 5,000 copies of the renamed paperback release, Great Again: How to Fix Our Crippled America.
Buying his own books with donor money too 🙂

I think you're supposed to mention how some other politician, preferably one that "plays for the other team" has done this at some point.

Charging FMV should not be a problem. The claim here is that Trump is gouging his campaign with inflated charges. I believe that would be a problem if true.

The last president whose background was in business was George Bush, who was preceded by his father. How did that work out?
Well . . . I had real health insurance, as opposed to "spend twelve grand and we'll talk" Obamacare-compliant "insurance".

When he claims he'll make America great again, some people forget to ask great for whom.

Except he's not that great at it. He's under-performed an index fund over the course of his business lifetime.
Meh. Most mutual funds under-perform index funds too.

Different intents. For someone that works as much/hard as DJT would like everyone to believe, his return on investments is shit.

I don't buy clothes that're made in ****istan or ******desh because I don't want to support terrorism.

Similarly I recently learned Woody is a TRUMPer and I will not be watching the JETS ever or buying future tickets to go see the Jets. Fuck em. I'll just watch another sport instead.

Eventually they'll get the message just like ESPN is having to lay people off because of cord cutters cutting into their profits.
