Trump nearly quintupled the monthly rent his presidential campaign pays for its headquarters at Trump Tower to $169,758 in July, when he was raising funds from donors, compared with March, when he was self-funding his campaign, according to a Huffington Post review of Federal Election Commission filings. The rent jumped even though he was paying fewer staff in July than he did in March.

I guess sheeple deserve to be fleeced :)

I like how he isn't even waiting until the election is over to start scamming his supporters. He's way ahead of where Palin was at this point in the grifting game.

Again I feel the need to sincerely ask if there is a single person Trump has ever dealt with that he didn't scam?

I'm sure there are plenty. OTOH, it wasn't for lack of effort on his part, I'm sure.

Con artists don't need a high success ratio to be successful at what they do. Until they run for President.

I saw a story on MSNBC he's added staff and needs more space. The cost increase is only slightly higher per sq foot than the lower cost. Seems pretty normal.

Well . . . Now I'm just disappointed. There's a certain . . . rightness . . . in people who give money to Trump getting ripped off.

he's just once again proving that he's a brilliant businessman, definitely the kind of guy we want as president.

I hope that's true and that report is wrong. This seemed brazen, even for him.

You should read some of the emails that folks are getting here (North Carolina.) Not sure if they're directly tied to the campaign or other PACs but they read like a Nigerian scam.

If a candidate can give their own money to their campaign then they can obviously donate facility use in the same way.

Not so sure about that, there are weird rules covering this stuff. They're weird because they haven't been updated.

BTW Hillary pays about 45-50k more per month for her staff but she has a lower cost per head.

Some financial types have suggested that Trump avoids taxes by exaggerating the value of his properties, then using depreciation to show losses & avoid taxes.

So, maybe Trump is charging his campaign x amount of dollars, but will declare that the value of the space was actually much more - therefore, he can write off the donation to his campaign. :p

Huffington Post is even more biased than Infowars... get back to us with a different source and I'll consider it.

Donald Trump hiked rent for his own campaign office once donor money became available

The Republican has said that he needed to expand his space – even though he had fewer staff

"Reports by the Federal Election Commission show that the Republican presidential nominee campaign paid $35,457 (£26,897) per month for rent and utilities to Trump Tower Commercial LLC between August 2015 and April this year.

However, the payments began increasing in May and hit $169,758 last month. The rent for the New York property jumped even though he was paying fewer staff in July than he was in March."

Even better folks who signed up for auto donations to Trump can't unsubscribe.

Besides either being a shitty thing if intentional or incompetent if unintentional it can also be a legal violation if the recurring donations go over the maximum allowed to one candidate in a year.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/08/trump-website-wont-let-supporters-cancel-donations.html

Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have options on their websites allowing supporters to set up recurring credit-card donations to their campaigns. But unlike Clinton’s, Trump’s website has no option to cancel thosedonations.

This little bit of trickery came to light after a disgruntled Trump supporter emailed CNNreporter Jeremy Diamond, who tweeted the message on Wednesday.
