Let's be clear, he is calling for vigilantism
And then when turmoil ensues blaming it on his opposition. He's down in the polls, he needs something new to pivot on. Vigilantism! What else can he conjure out of nothing?

Social Dominators, which is what Trump is, want chaos. Chaos for a Social Dominator is perfect because they can ramp up whatever legal power they have in order to obtain even more power to "prevent chaos".

We have among the harshest penalties in the developed world, yes.

So again, can you explain why our crime rates are higher than most other developed countries despite harsher punishments? Doesn’t that indicate your theory is wrong?

Humanity has been using harsh punishments as a means to deter crime since the dawn of civilization, and that strategy has never worked. Not even once. And yet some still insist that even harsher punishments are the only solution. And when those harsh punishments are frequently targeted against certain groups, often without the due process required by the law, you have to ask yourself what the actual problem it is that they're trying to solve.

Punishing harder to deter more crime, is akin to cutting more taxes so even more trickles down.

It only takes a sentence to say and no one who says it is going to actually listen to the book-length amount of evidence that shows that it's wrong.

The people who say it believe it because of their "gut", and because they've believed it for so long that changing their mind now would open up a whole lot of issues with who they are and what else they believe. Better to double and triple down on the talking point then realize they've been getting fooled by people who are just using them for their money and vote.

This is true about a whole lot of the problems that the world faces right now. There are a lot of simple sounding answers that don't work but are easy to explain and a few really hard answers that will work but you have to either trust the experts know what they are talking about or spend a considerable amount of time working to understand the problem and how the solution works. Since we have had people working for decades to convince people not to trust the experts, we are stuck with the simple but wrong answers.

Intelligent people are aware of this. Even the unintelligent are aware of this. The question is how honest are you? With yourself and others.
