Trump calls off Pompeo’s North Korea visit, citing a lack of progress on denuclearization

Citing a lack of “progress” on denuclearization, Trump tweeted that “I have asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo not to go to North Korea, at this time.”

At the same time, Trump telegraphed a continued interest in the talks, and previewed a future meeting with the young leader. “I would like to send my warmest regards and respect to Chairman Kim. I look forward to seeing him soon!” Trump tweeted.

Now really, who did not see this coming.

The interesting thing is any other time this would be front page breaking news. This week it is just a footnote.

So the fuck what? We've been talking to NK for 50 years and have not made a single bit of progress. It's saber-rattling and posturing and nothing would come of whatever meetings did get held. Kudos to Trump for understanding it better than the usual suspects here. It's a sad state of affairs if Trump understands something better than you and he can grasp the concept of futility. The rest of you need to work on it.

If Trump knew nothing would come of the meetings then he shouldn’t have made any concessions to North Korea to have them, yet he did.

Everyone on this board knew nothing would come of it. It’s a sad state of affairs that random idiots on a message board know better than the president.

You’re just making up revisionist history now.

I think a lot on the liberal side believed that they would have to settle with a nuclear NK. The main difference seems to be whether this should potentially lead to either some kind of bloody nose attack/alpha strike or deterrence.

This is a joke.

Kim got Trump to stop the war games, and then did NOTHING he said he would do in return. Scraped up some old bones months later after Trump cried as a concession to what he already promised to do.

Trump got pwnd hard by Kim. The whole fucking planet told Trump it was stupid, and he went anyhow!

Now, 3 months later, you try to act like your daddy is not a moron. Try harder.

I think Trump definitely knew. He just wanted any stupid deal as long as it could help him domestically with approval. The funny part is that any increase in approval was probably from conservatives as I've come across a lot of hypocrites that think the Iran deal was horrible but this was the best, since it was their dear leader who made it.

That is kind of amazing that he was somehow able to claim that Trump is some foreign policy genius because he abandoned a policy that everyone else knew was stupid before he even tried it.

Most people don’t touch a hot stove. Apparently Trump supporters want to praise his genius because he only burned one of his fingers off.

But he had to try and they didn’t give anything to NK in return. Except for the legitimacy of Kim and the alienation of allies. But that doesn’t count.

Edit: Shit I should have read the thread first. Someone already made this bullshit argument.

I agree with you, it would be a sad state of affairs if Trump were to understand something better than me.

Trump understanding it better? The man publicly said that NK was now no longer a nuclear threat. He literally thought he had fixed the problem and you proclaim that HE has a good understanding of the situation?

Here's the key to Trump, whatever he does he has no fucking IDEA what he's doing and if something, anything should ever pan out it's purely by mistake.

The man is an imbecile that has been coddled all his life, from crib to grave he will never have to take responsibility for any of his actions because someone else will always handle it for him.

To be fair, Trump isn't GFR's daddy. He isn't a Trump voter. He is an ignorant arrogant asshole that thinks his ignorance makes him smarter than people who know Democrats are orders of magnitude better than any Republican.

Heard Trump is upset with China for not helping with NK. Well, maybe if you didn't start a trade war with them, they'd be interested in helping. Not upset with Russia though for not helping and continuing to trade with NK.

Of course we have to settle for a nuclear N Korea. It's a fait accompli. We're not willing to create the conditions under which they would relinquish such weapons. Attacking N Korea would be extremely foolish if we care about our S Korean allies who obviously don't want war.
