Trump backs Bible classes in schools

HIS BASE!
It's ALL about his base.
The country is burning from Donald Trump rule, so why not try religion?
I mean, everything else has failed and Trump is still in, so why not try praying him away?
GOD... bless mom and dad and grandma and grandpa. And please god, drop a piano on Donald Trump. Preferably while he is standing still, choking on a chicken leg. 😉

I thought kids normally stop reading fairy tales around age of 5 or so?

As someone that actually did go to a private christian school for a couple years in my grade school days - I do have to say that classes based on bible study is simply the stupidest thing you can ever do with your time. You would serve your brain better by huffing paint.

All bout his base, bout his base, so terrible....

I think we should study religion in schools. The history of each and their primary teachings. It shouldn’t be limited to Christianity and should be in the context of study.

I don't have a problem with an elective that studies the content and historical context of the Bible. But that's not what happens and is not what these lawmakers are after.

Want to see if the fundies are serious, propose legislation offering to teach the Koran.

Step back and wait for the cries of Sharia Law

Yes, please teach the Quran in grade school.

When Timmy asks liberal femenist mommy if it is ok to kill gays, because the Quran says so, let's see what happens.

If you find anyone doing as Lot's people did, kill the one who does it, and the one to whom it is done.

Or you can teach what Christ said and love one another.

I think teaching mythology to high schoolers makes sense. They can learn greek mythology, norse mythology, roman mythology, as well as the mythology of the desert.
one of my favorite high school courses was folklore and mythology. The teacher was awesome, so that helped.

Let's just go with not teaching religion in primary schools until people are old enough to learn it as a subject and not 'gospel'. If they choose to personally believe in it then, more power to them.

If a man lies with a man as one lies with woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads" (Leviticus 20:13).

OP, I hope you know that's behind the big charter/private school vouchers, they want to prop up religious schools especially and they want the public to fund it because of course conservatives can't float their bullshit themselves, they need everyone else to pay for it. Which is ironic considering their constant bitching about entitlements and social support programs.

The problem is fundies like TH will selectively choose what part of the Old Testament is useful to them.

I took both a mythology and a Bible as lit class at a liberal California public high school where I graduated from in 1986. I don't see the problem and think it's a good thing students learn what different religions teach and the mythos of past cultures to put it all in perspective.

IMHO, it's better students learn about various religions in a public classroom setting than to only receive a childhood indoctrination from a church teaching their particular religion as absolute truth they will go to hell for questioning.
