Taking the above with a few(hundred?) grains of salt there is one point I take home. Just thinking out loud here, no need to light up the flamethrower, critical thought welcome.

I think that the rhetoric is comparable and I think that they are catering to the same demographic, that class of citizen that has experienced a regression in income, livelihood and welfare. Apparently when this happens to a human being this subject gets mad and angry at the world and is somewhat easily swayed by a charismatic leader speaking of a common outer enemy - and thus as sociology predicts it encourages strong group cohesion.

Here is where it tickles my balls, comparing the demographic of then vs. now. The poverty of then vs the poverty of now.
No-one now is poor like they were poor in the 1930's depression.

Enter Maslow

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

This tells me that we are talking about perceived poverty rather than actual basic fundamental needs of the body.

So now I am left wondering, how do we avoid this scenario of the angry homo sapiens?

Is it the span between poor and rich? If you can see the riches but cannot reach them they automatically get a place in the pyramid and becomes something you *need*? Is the answer to close the gap between the ultra rich and ultra poor? - I think it could be.

Or is it that any regression in livelihood will incite this "angry" response and given a demographic big enough and you've got your use case? - I think it could be.

Thoughts?

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who seriously compares Trump to Hitler is just too fucking stupid to reason with.

You can point to many things Trump has done and said that are bad, and you can easily make a strong argument that he's a shitty human being. Comparing him to one of the most evil humans of all time, responsible for the death of tens of millions? Yeah, anyone who goes there has just gone off the deep end. And no, don't start with "this is how it started!" bullshit either. It's not even on the same planet.

Obviously its not the same as Trump dialed the rhetoric all the way back/down once he had won. He himself admitted to adapting a certain rhetoric during elections that was necessary to gain ground. Donald today is not the Donald as of 14 days ago. It is really *that* rhetoric and its implications that I want to discuss and compare. - as far as you are concerned or not.

The problem you have though is that many on the left fully embrace the Hitler comparison. I have lib friends that I saw have literal emotional melt-downs last Tuesday night. They were raving hysterically about Trump going to be just like Hitler. My youngest has a dear (female) friend that he has spent a considerable amount of time supporting through some very rough times. When Trump won, she flipped out and made some comment like, 'now guys will think it's ok to rape women and I don't think I can trust you anymore.' My son can be a moody jerk at times, but unless he needed to defend himself or someone, he wouldn't raise a hand to anyone.

So feel free to talk about whatever you want, but I doubt you'll get any meaningful discussion from many on the left. They still don't have a clue as to why they lost.

Well I can try :).
Another angle, I think we saw this first with Brexit, now futher honed in the US with sorts of like Cambridge Analytica and the injection of viral news(true or not) and ads in social media.. We could see this strategy used again successfully with the 2017 french election of Le Pen.
You know as they say, big disasters have small beginnings.
