Remember when it was a big deal when Clinton's State Department was one of seven federal agencies to approve the sale of uranium to a Russian company which wasn't permitted to export it and was under close regulatory watch? Well Trump has been mulling selling nuclear plants to the Saudis since he got into office. This article says they were discussing it as recently as last week. And here is the real kicker:

The Cummings report notes that one of the power plant manufacturers that could benefit from a nuclear deal, Westinghouse Electric, is a subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management, the company that provided financial relief to the family of Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and adviser. Brookfield Asset Management took a 99-year lease on the family’s deeply indebted New York City property at 666 Fifth Avenue.

Anyone else had enough of our nation's foreign policy and national security held hostage by the business dealings of the Trump family?

If any Trumper can explain why it's OK to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement yet turn around and sell nuclear plants to Saudi Arabia, I'll vote for Trump in 2020.

Gee, what could possibly go wrong with transferring nuclear technology to the Saudis?

Nothing at all for Trump. I'm sure he's got plenty of business lined up with the Saudis for when he leaves office. As for the rest of the country, who cares?

1. US sells nuclear technology to Saudis
2. Iran reacts by restarting its nuclear program
3. US uses this to justify airstrikes against Iran

Cool, cool.

I was genuinely curious if... well... first Is Saudi Arabia already a nuke holder? I don't keep tabs on who has them these days. Wikipedia tells me no - But I did see this relative gem

In May 2008, the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding, as part of the United States' vintage Atoms for Peace program, to boost Saudi efforts for a civilian nuclear program. This program did not involve support for development of nuclear weapons.

2008 eh? Looking more like... Something that goes back to Bush?

I've already advocated hanging Bush (after the trial, of course) over his treasonous love affair with the House of Saud. If Trump wants to get in that line, that's on him.

Saudi Arabia does not have nuclear weapons.

Probably more importantly, these transfers today are being considered despite the express warnings of national security officials.

Yes, I didn't quote the entire article. For those who haven't read it all, here is the relevant portion regarding the warnings. H.R. McMaster - now gone - was one of the people objecting to it.

Several current and former Trump administration appointees promoted sales of nuclear power plants to Saudi Arabia despite repeated objections from members of the National Security Council and other senior White House officials, according to a new report from congressional Democrats.

The officials who objected included White House lawyers and H.R. McMaster, then the chief of the National Security Council. They called for a halt in the nuclear sales discussions in 2017, citing potential conflicts of interest, national security risks and legal hurdles.

Doesn't really matter what our national security advisers say. I want to know what Putin has to say.
As much as Putin plays the chaos game, I doubt even he would want to see a nuclear-capable Saudi Arabia.

Uhh... one would think that given the Saudi wealth that if they wanted nukes they would have them by now? Hell, 20 years ago even.

If this is the case then why do you think senior national security people oppose this transfer? Surely they have extensive information on SA’s capabilities and motivations.

The Saudi's are not considered a nuclear weapons state. Their main concern would be a nuclear Iran so if Iran really want nuclear then I would expect them to make a big push in that direction

Why fool around? Just Free Market the shit out of nuclear weapons. Make it a turnkey deal with launchers, training & the whole thing. We could pay off the national debt in nothing flat. What could go wrong?

please don't say things like this. There are enough retards around here that will repost or tweet the same idea in some batshit forums, that will then tweet this to Trump, who will almost certainly take it seriously and request that his SecDef and SecState investigate the possibility. He will then boast about the brilliant idea at several of his Rust Belt Nuremberg rallies.

The reason a nuclear deal has never been agreed to with Saudia Arabia before is because they have previously refused to sign the Non-proliferation treaty. Let me guess, now we will give them a pass? Jared's got lots of promises to keep.

They could already have nuclear weapons and we are oblivious to this....

Not really. KSA is a signatory to the NPT. It's trivial to know that truth.

They certainly have had their opportunities to develop them, but it's almost impossible to keep such a program quiet. And keeping existence of the program quiet is counterproductive anyways - if you have nukes, you want everyone to know it so they don't even think of invading.

I must have misunderstood something I heard regarding some sort of nuclear agreement they were not a party to.
Holy shit, just googling that shows a lot of money being spent promoting SA having nuclear power. Many hits.
