You are not really that far off. I said the other day that if some of those GOP Senators decide to start impeachment he will just fire them. I don't think he really understands that Congress does not work for him.
The scary thing is that things like that have happened before in other countries. The only real check on the Presidents power is how far the Military will follow him. This is one of the ways that democracies fall. One influential President decides to 'fire' the Legislative or Judicial branch and the Military either agrees to enforce it or agrees to not interfere.

To be serious for a second, the armed forces of the US will not follow Trump anywhere, he could have declared a war and be the first President where the Staff, Officers and armed forces unanimously just said "no". The man doesn't have the authority to order a piss party at a Russian hotel any more.
