I think this is my go-to reaction GIF for every stupid Trump announcement in future:

A close runner-up choice would have been that moment in 'Lilo & Stitch' when the head honcho alien says sarcastically, "of course!" when the space ship crash-lands on a tiny speck of land in the middle of a huge ocean, but the Internet doesn't seem to be forthcoming with that one.

You have to understand the mentality of the modern day Republican party. Scientists are elitist, and we should trust regular folk wisdom and faith more than experts.

This guy is going to oversee the USDA’s research section studies on nutrition?! Trump managed to find a place in his administration for Jabba the Hutt.

Yeah, he looks like the poster child for bad nutrition...maybe they can study him.

If one was to say this, wouldn't one ASK A SCIENTIST to help them "get more science"?

“I think our position is very clearly [that] Mr. Trump is a skeptic on climate change, and we need more science,” he said. “Once we get more science, we are going to make decisions.”

Option 3: Trump doesn't give a shit about the government and views positions in it primarily as patronage opportunities. They are vehicles to reward supporters and consolidate his power, not to perform the actual functions of government that they were created for. To me this is by far the most likely thing, and the most toxic.
This. It's all pay to play cronyism and corruption. Trump has almost singlehandedly restored the spoils system to Washington. Which, incidentally, was created by Trump's hero, Andrew Jackson, in the first place.

Oh man, now I know why this feels familiar. "Spoils system" was the term from 7th grade US History I was looking for. ...fuck, we're all boned :/
