TruForm

I just read Anand's article on TruForm...if it really works like that, even on older games, that will be amazing! What it did to the face looked so incredible.

Man, I checked out the article @anandtech, and the one @gamespot, and I've got to say that the NVidia will have some competition when this card comes out. Again, ATI will be going for image quality over speed (though I bet the Radeon II will be speedy nonetheless). This may be my next upgrade option if it is in the sub$200 level. (I currently have a Radeon DDR LE).

Makes sense for ATi to price it a little sub-$200 to take a little steam outta the GF3's engine. This shoud, in turn, compel nVidia to drop prices. Competition kicks ass!

It sounds great, especially since it takes only one line of code to implement, but what i am worried about are the drivers. Seems like if the ATi screw up on the drivers, it will not work as well.

I'm not so sure about it. one has to be skeptical where ATi is concerned.
the idea that a line or so of code to turn on the feature is very good but we can already see the prospect of artefacts if a developer doesn't code specifically for the feature.
the T&L unit is claimed to do the work. I'm sure it does the work much more efficiently than a programmer's software coding, but the ATi T&L unit is slow. it shows up as half the speed as nvidia's. are they not asking too much of it? remember that 1 triangle spawns 8 more (at least) for the truform effect.

This TruForm is making me rethink about getting the Kyro2 now, which is right at my sworn price range. Never will I spend more money for a video card than the Motherboard it sits upon. Anyway I don't have too many penny's to rub together, so it makes the chioce of wait and see that much easier. Check out the video card I run now...
Your jealous 😉

It is my understanding that ATi's T&L unit is a little bit quicker than nVidia's GTS version of T&L. But that is kind of irrelevant anyway... Benchmark programs are specifically designed to make some products look good and others bad...

Who is to say that the T&L unit in Radeon 2 is going to be the same as the T&L unit in the first Radeon? GF3's T&L is far superior to the GF2's...

Also, ATi's driver support has improved tremendously. I realize that a lot of people had crappy driver experiences in the past with their Rage 128, or whatever... but the Radeon has been well supported. It's not like their S3 for Chrissakes....

Give ATi a little time here before shoveling dirt in its face. Truform looks incredible...

TruForm looks cool to me, hopefully it works.

I am currently using a Radeon 64Mb and have no complaints, even in Win2k. I have never had driver trouble, they keep getting faster and I have not had trouble getting games to work.

I wish people would quit bashing ATI. It's not like they are the only company who has had problems...I think we can all remember a time when AMD could not make a CPU worth the powder to blow it to hell.

I don't think it will make old games look cool, maybe different, I dunno, imagine every game looking like Esctatica [how many old timers remember that?]

That would be N-patch tesselation . ATi already has the opengl extension in the current radeon drivers . I think that it would be really cool , I mean some artifacts would be tolerable .

<< hmm.. I should buy shares in ATi!

I gotta support the Canadian companies after all!
>>

And if it goes down , you can sue !

looks awesome🙂 just wonder what q3a or unreal would look like with it on heh. makes kyro2 look like a step in the wrong direction😛

good to have some new feature on radeon2

after reading the reiew of truform, it really make me wanting to have it
the technology just cool

hope they won't delay the radeon2

<<<makes kyro2 look like a step in the wrong direction>>>

Why the Kyro II in particular? Kyro II isn't any less compatible with N-Patch tesselation then any other card on the market.

From the way I read the review it seemed that TruForm was just a hardware based form of accessing some DX8 commands. Doesn't that mean that Nvidia could whip out a comparable type hardware solution? And considering the new GF3 Quincunx (Funny word I hope its spelled right) , Nvidia pretty much owns in the FSAA department. Wrap it all together and smash it together with the new nForce or Crush or whatever they're calling it and we may have a true ATi stomper here. I'll bank with Nvidia anyday simply because of their wide range of compatibility. I use win2k so thats usually a pretty big issue. I've seen lots of other brand card have problems under win2k due to bad driver support but it seems like nvidias always on top of their game.

Stop!! You're trying to make me second guess my gf3 purchase! I'd be super pissed if I waited this long to jump the gun. I just upgraded from a voodoo3.
