It's easily seen in the shoulder areas. Without Truform, the shoulder is sharp, unnatural. With Truform enabled, the contours are visible, looking more human.

Not only that shoulders. Check out the difference between their elbows, wrists, even their backs! That is unbelievable! I remember reading up on it when it was first marketed by ATI, but havn't seen what it really did until now.

just set it in ut2k3 and it looks alot better. no slow down either on my system either.

to do it, change UseNPatches to true in the ut2003.ini file.

on an r3xx card a faster cpu and agp bus are what helps trueform seeing as how it is all done in software
Are you sure? The idea that ATi removed hardware N-Patch tesselation from their R300 seems rather ridiculous. Do you have a link to a whitepaper that states this?

does it matter what the TesselationFactor is? By default its 1

Also, will it work on Unreal2's unreal2.ini? I didn't find either setting there, but since its basically using the same engine I'm guessing I can add them in?

ATI dropped support for Truform via hardware, supposedly "gave up" on it, since game devs dont want it and would rather simply use high-polygon models.

not sure if its the same setting, but i think i saw some settings on the web for u2 also.

i found a mod for quake2 that supports it. makes things look all bubbly. looks cool.

Hmmn, it seems to work in UT2K3, the character models look rounded and smoother, but it doesn't seem to do any good for Unreal II. I even typed the commands into the console and they weren't even recognized.

ATI's site says U2 does not, in fact, support Truform.
look over some U2 sites...maybe you can enable it somewhere in a file.

That's weird, since its using the same engine as UT2K3...hmmn, oh well I guess U2 is slow enough as it is anyway :)

Not on my P4 2.4B@3GHz/1GB PC3200/overclocked Radeon 9700 Pro system...on some stages my framerates drop below 20FPS, on most others they hover around an average of anywhere between 40-70FPS. It seems I'm the only guy experiencing this too, wonder why...oh well.

No, you're not. Unreal 2 was an absolute pig when it came out and it really brought any system to its knees.

To fix it get the patch and it'll practically double your performance. It's still a little jerky at times but for the most part it runs just fine. I run it at 1280 x 960 x 32 with 16x performance anisotropic filtering. System specs below.

Yeah, I've patching it along since it came out, and I've got the latest patch too, but then I haven't been playing it much since it doesn't have much replay value...I'm not at the stage where the framerates drop below 20FPS yet, but I'm not expecting any miracles either. Thanks for the suggestion though. After getting used to Q3A capped at 90FPS, even 40+FPS looks awfully jerky to me :(
